I am sad too. Several years ago,I think in 1968, my band filled in for the resident band at the "Golden Garter" club in Wythenshawe, Manchester, when they took their summer vacation. Luckily for me and the other guys in the band Vera was the top of the bill for one of the two weeks that we were there. She was lovely, treating us musicians as though she was just another band member, and making not one iota of a big deal. I would add that for the other week the English comedian Norman Wisdom was the top of the bill. He was great too, and we were amazed to find that he was a very good jazz clarinet player, and that part of his act was a rendition of "It Don't Mean a Thing if it ain't got that Swing"
Salut! The next time I play "The White Cliffs of Dover" or "We'll Meet Again" I will say a quiet little "thank-you"
