It's taken nearly six months but i have finally upgraded my old trackir2+ X52 Pro sim package, the stick was the last part. Thrustmaster pedals, these are taking some getting used to and realised it's going to be slightly harder (a lot ) than i thought it would be get used to after being a twisty stick user for nearly two decades. The trackir5 unit is nice even though i'm still mucking with settings. I debated going the cheapie route with a ps camera and free track or alternatives but honestly, i couldn't be bothered with all the mucking around anymore. I just want pnp these days. and the stick, VKB MKIII Gunfighter, non twist option. I really wanted the WWII combat grip but was worried i may not have enough button/hat options if i venture into DCS or similar. The base. Very nice solid bit of gear. The black box The metal base that it screws to and comparison to my now retired X52 The grip is nice, very comfy and makes the X52 feel very dated and plasticy. Everything seems decently reachable, i have had to adjust the palm rest as the top left button is a stretch. With the X52 i always struggled with the palm rest as i could never find the sweet spot between comfortable and squishy, this rest seems nice but only gives you two adjustments and could be a bit wider. So far i have changed out the factory included springs which are the lighter 10A for the included heavier 30A and adjusted the clutches to the point where it just returns to centre nicely, but with some friction. I won't muck around with the cams until i get a few hours in game and have a feel for the stick. So, all of this won't make me a better sim pilot but at least my crash landings will be slightly more realistic regards expense

I know! After about 14 years with the old setup i finally decided to spoil myself this year. I can't really knock the X52 as she has a lot of hours under her belt but after only 30 minutes in a D9 in IL2GB, man, the VKB is just really next level regards feel and comfort. Everything being pnp, rudder pedals, vkb stick, x52 throttle, trackir and it all just works instantly. No troubleshooting, external aftermarket programs needed etc.. we got it so easy nowadays, it's brilliant.

And the wife walks in and says, "Honey, my sister out of state is having a crisis. We need to go there this weekend to give her emotional support." Seriously though, have fun with it.
SALUTE TO ALL!

Nice piece of serious kit you got there, enjoy it! It's indeed cool how many plug&play, modular controller solutions we have today (both wheels and sticks). As for the TIR, I stopped using mine now for racing, but these things last forever it seems, so well worth the expense instead of the fiddle self-made solutions. I guess we're gonna see less of your modelling the next weeks

I got one belly up atm, underside and one colour on the fuselage painted. It's not Luftwaffe so she's an easy paint job. But you're right, the modelling will slow for a bit. I'm heading to the hardware store tomorrow and going to knock out a basic version of THIS , well a prototype anyway at first and see where i go from there. I'm figuring just to make it out of some wood and if it is more ergonomic than having the stick on the desk i'll head out to my mates place and we will do a metal version if needed.
