So yesterday i noticed a defect in my Bose Soundlink II Bluetooth headphones. They are almost 2 years old to the day. As you can see, the rubber trim is pulling away from the cup.
[Linked Image] I paid $340 (with tax) for these. I fully expect to get a good 5 years out of a product that costs that much. It appears the rubber has expanded somehow, so I couldn't just crazy glue them back together. Doing a search online, it is a known problem. It must take time for the rubber to expand. I look after my stuff. I have bought a few Bose products over the years, and have been very happy with them. I bought a pair of 301's back in 94, still have them. My PC speakers are Companions 5's, 7 years old now, still sound fantastic. A Soundlink II Bluetooth speaker and the aformentioned headphones (which sound wise are great)
Contact Bose via chat on their website. They offer to replace them for $140. Uh..NO.
So, I head to Twitter, communicate with them via their service account. Gotta love social media sometimes. Twitter really seems to get the attention you need.
They have offered to replace them as a courtesy.

Bose has really done well by me. I have the A20’s for my plane and they are really much better than other headsets I’ve tried. One of the few things that lived up to the hype.

Every year I fly into Sun n Fun and take my headsets to the Bose booth and leave them for a checkup. They have replaced ear pads at no cost, changed the guts in one switch/controller at no cost, and do a diagnostic on them.

Nothing but good to say about Bose.

I have two Bose headsets and neither have held up all that well from a materials durability standpoint.

Their noise cancellation technology may be excelllent but they're below par otherwise, certainly considering the pricepoint.

Would not buy again.

This is tech PWEC for sure.

Bose is just like Apple. It's not that the TECH is so bad, just the PRICE for what you GET.

I've heard a lot of Bose speakers over the decades. Not one pair of them sounded bad - they all sounded better than most your "department store brands"...

Then again I still remember a 1980's claim of their 901 speakers power capacity - it said "Unlimited". Blatant lie.

I love Bose, got their Acoustimass cinema system, earbud headphones and QC25 headphones.

But V-MODA build better sounding headphones, incredible and priced more reasonably. I highly recommend the V-MODA Crossfade.

So it's been 2 years, less a month, with my replacement Bose Soundlink II bluetooth headphones. And guess what ?, the same defect developed again. Reached out to Bose, and they are replacing them again. I must say, I am very impressed with their customer service. Considering I bought the original pair 4 years ago.
In the end it is just a cosmetic defect, the rubber like material seem to stretch over time somehow.
Compared to my customer service dealings with Asus over the last year, Bose is light years ahead when it comes to customer service.

I have two sets of Bose aviation headsets. When I heard a couple pilots talking about them I thought “can they really be that much better ?” Bought a set. Yep, they were . One of the few products that exceeded my expectations. Bought a second set for the wife.

Every year at Sun n Fun I take them to the Bose booth where they do a diagnostic on them. Every year they have replaced the ear pads at no charge. Yes, they were about 20% more expensive, but worth it.

I've owned many Bose products over the years. Always sound great. But their customer service is second to none.

Wow, i've heard about Bose customer service before, but this takes it to the next level.

I was quite doubting between the Bose 700 Noise-cancelling headphones (because of their customer service) and the Sony WH-1000MX3 (known to be an atrocious customer service). The Bose asked 90 bucks more, their privacy statement on the headphones is dubious at best, and illegal at worst, AND their noise-cancelling is a generation behind Sony's.

Too bad, because it seems that when you buy a Bose headphone, they really go the extra mile customer service wise.

That has definitely been my experience with them. I was fully prepared to for them to say " sorry, we replaced the original set 2 years ago". I figured why not try ? Glad I did.

Normally I think of Bose as overpriced, but I remember as a teen they ran really good sales on the 301's (Series 2 and 3?). Lots of people I know still have these, now decades old. I have a pair of 201's and they sound decent, but not like the 301's. The Wave Radio was also impressive for its size, quite heavy too.

Guy I knew had a pair of 901's hanging from the corners of his living room ceiling (vs, the optional stands) at just the right distances from the walls. Incredible to me for the design and size, watched closely and the speakers didn't even seem to move at higher volume and with impressive lows (again, for the size). Neat stuff.

I recently broke down and sold my 301's I bought back in 1996. I had 6 offers in less than an hour. My old audio equipment was toast. They just sat there for a few years.
My Bose Companion 5 PC speakers are 9 years old, and still sound amazing. And I have a Bose bluetooth speaker for mobile needs (in the garage/yard) also sounds great, and it has great battery life.

We have the A20 in our 737s. Really an excellent headset in what is quite a noisy cockpit. It is the best ANR headset for aviation out there, without a question. BUT, there is not much passive noise attenuation, so one should always have replacement batteries on hand if your headset isn’t aircraft-powered. Also, big engines, like the R-1340, can sometimes overpower the ANR at takeoff power. I have the predecessor, Aviation X, and they are also excellent. In ten years I have replaced one set of ear seals.

OG, do you use batteries or have you had a powered plug fitted in your cockpit?

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

I use batteries. Always keep spares in my aircraft door pouch and in the headset carry bag. I have two of the A20’s. They really are good.

I'm a very happy Bose customer, started with their home stereo systems, then last year purchased 3 sets of their headphones. Awesome for flights or to wear at work in the office when people don't shut up and want to talk all day.
