Hi community,

I'm hoping that somebody can clear up some confusion for me please.

I would like to purchase and install il-2 from steam, and there seems to be so many versions available I'm not sure which one to buy. I have heard that there might be a North Africa campaign coming, can anybody enlighten me on that please?

Would also like to know what theaters I may be able to fly in, as I don't have a great deal of time to mod these days.

Many thanks,

Andrew.

Kindest regards,

AJ

You mean IL-2 CoD ?
I assume any purchase on Steam nowadays should give you the option to install either the original or the improved version called IL-2 CoD “Blitz”.
Blitz is the version you want to fly.
Single theatre currently, BoB with bits of England, the Channel and Northwest France.
North Africa Expansion should be exciting, no idea when it will be released and at what price tho.

Hope it helps a bit.
If other sim, then I am clueless :-/

Cheers,
Slug

If you mean BoX, I'd get the Steam version of Battle of Stalingran, then go get the rest of the expansions from IL-2's website. Link the accounts and you'll have them all on Steam. It gives more money to the developers and the benefits of Steam that way.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help, I would especially like to thank Timothy for pointing me to the product webpage.

Without showing any disrespect, I've kind of had it with WW2 flight sims that usually portray the Battle of Britain, so I've wanted to look for something else. After going to the il-2 webpage, I have decided to purchase Battle of Bodenplatte, and later, Battle of Normandy. Will certainly take me to a new place, and time of the Second World War.
Happy also that these are stand alone products. Can't wait to fly rhubarb missions in a Tempest.

Thanks again,

Andrew.

Kindest regards,

AJ

I'm currently flying the HS-129 in the Kuban campaign and I'm absolutely loving it!

Good choice. Battle of Bodenplatte is my favorite of the series. Can't get enough of that P-38!

IL-2 Sturmovik game has three major series - not compatible in between, on STEAM you find.

IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 - that include all serie started in 2001

Il-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover - released (broken) in 2011 with new engine, not compatible with previous.
IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Blitz Edition (no reason for buy the previous Cliffs of Dover since Blitz include all previous contend and TFS fixes, improvements).

IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad - released in 2012 with new engine, not compatible with previous.
IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Moscou - this and subsequente Battle of... are standalone games, but can be merged with Battle of Stalingrad. Stalingrad is not required for play any of posterior versions.
IL-2 Strumovik: Battle of Kuban
IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Bodenplate
Unless STEAM price of this 3rd series are advantage for you, don' buy in STEAM but buy in il2sturmovik.com site, where you can pre-order Battle of Normandy and play with planes already released, e.g. Yak-9.

Battle of Kuban has the best map, hands down. It's just about the only one I use. I like to "make believe" it's New Guinea. Skinners have liveries of the Lagg-5 and Italian MC 202 dressed up in Japanese markings. I like to fly the P-38 in there. It's as close as I can get to the Pacific until DCS releases the Corsair and the Mariannas map.

BOS is required first for a Steam install.

In the process of installing the BAT mod for IL-2 1946. Holy crap, takes a looooooooong time. And I haven't even gotten to the expansion packs yet.

What about campaigns, careers and missions? Those will only be made by the community? I would absolutely love a full fledged WW II Pacific flight sim but I don't care for the "a la carte" approach that DCS is taking with its WW 2 content.
