The last American still collecting a pension related to the American Civil War has died.
Irene Triplett was 90 years old and living in a North Carolina nursing home.

Quote
Triplett suffered cognitive impairments, qualifying her for the lifelong pension as a helpless adult child of a veteran. Second, her father, Mose Triplett, who'd served as a private in the Confederate Army before defecting to the Union, was on his second marriage when she was born in 1930. He was just a few weeks away from turning 84.

Quite the story. Thanks.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

“No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth!” - Ronald Reagan.

Watch, some politician will be calling for the program's expansion next week.

That quote from Reagan is absolutely 100% correct.

Also, I'm sure the irony of the story in the link posted by Docjonel isn't lost on anyone here. smile

I wonder if President John Tyler's two living grandsons collect any sort of presidential pensions?

I am curious how many were involved in administering this program . . .

I’m just happy that no one has suggested that I was receiving it.

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

No, we knew you are getting the Spanish-American War pension.

I wouldn't be surprised if a descendant of Teddy Roosevelt is indeed getting one!
