To all those young men back in Summer 44 - landing on the beaches and dropping behind enemy lines - thank you All for your grit, courage, tears and sacrifice.

You gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street
You gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight
You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking

If you made it off the landing craft at Omaha, having the courage to work your way up the beach in the face of withering machine gun fire, then forming part of an effective fighting force for at least the next 24 hours before getting any rest at all, simply boggles the mind! Heroes one and all.

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

Respect to every one and all who were part of the Normandy landing and assault.

On a related note, has any other film or tv series matched the brilliance and power of the Normandy landing segment in Saving Private Ryan?

The British beach landing in The Longest Day is emotional with that Scottish guycussing and nearly drowning.

This scene is emotional too.
