So right off the bat I'm suspicious when it comes in a cardboard box in a ziploc bag and a sheet with basic instructions. The unit has a window in the back with a chip on it displaying the Track-Ir logo and a tag on the cord. I installed the software and it works, the head unit is attached by a magnet kind of fiddly but taping the cord to the back of the monitor helps otherwise it would pull it off of the mount. Has anyone else ever got a Unit like this?

Mine doesn't look like yours from the back,it has a raised '5' moulded into the plastic. The head is attached via a magnet. I just looked and the magnet is strong enough to hold up the spare cable that I have coiled up behind the monitor.
I'm not saying yours isn't genuine, there may have been manufacturing differences, plus mine is around 2 years old.
*edit*
This is how mine came packaged. Note, this one looks exactly like yours from the back so it must be manufacturing differences.
Edit: and btw, I have this little "jack" in the magnet-tripod where I can secure the chord, no need for a tape.
The shape of my monitor requires the base to be turned 180 degrees so I can't use the grooved keeper. As far as I can tell it's a real Track Ir but sure weird not to get it in the blister.

My TIR 5 is like Chucky's. All-black back with a raised '5'.
If I am not mistaken, the red back is for the Pro model, which included a different hat clip, the Track Clip Pro. Standard TIR 5 have the black back and the Track Clip (not to be confused with Track Clip Pro)
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!
