after the heading for "WHY WAS STONEHENGE AERODROME BUILT?", I really wanted them to say "no one knows where they came from, or what they were doing."

good stuff none the less

Very cool, Shredward. Thank you for the link.

I'm valiantly resisting the temptation for a Spinal Tap reference.

Ah Nigel Tufnel, where's your musical genius when we need it most.

But back to early flying on the Salisbury plain - The Flintstones - Stonehenge - no one? Not even a go at the low hanging fruit? The famous Prehistoric flying aces, Manfred von Rocktossin, and Captain Eddie Rockenbreaker. Or an observation perhaps about how unreliable the guns were on their planes because of frequent shale jams. Anyone - anyone? Bueller - Bueller - Bueller?

Just posted this on FB and my cousin who lives nearby told me that the corner of the two roads in which Stonehenge sits is known locally as Airman's Corner.

RedToo, I remember hearing that back in the mid-1970s the first time I visited Stonehenge and was told the story then about why it was called that.

And Shredward, thanks for posting the link. I should have said so earlier but derailed myself in my last post. biggrin

It's an aerodrome, not a train station

We will remember them.
