Since The Americans just isn't available on BluRay or Amazon Prime here in Germany, I can't say if there are similarities (though I suspect that they are probably only superficial).

Burn Notice is about what happens if a CIA field agent is locked down to Miami, forced out of the agency for unknown reasons, with all his credit cards and accounts frozen, and must make do, somehow. He wants to get back into the agency (but needs to understand why he was fired in the first place, and nobody's talking to him), but the short term problem is to get an apartment (for which you need money), and to earn the money he turns into some unlikely private investigator. So he gets clients from all walks of life, with all kinds of problems, and he earns quickly a reputation of getting the job done. And while he's solving the case of the week, he's delivering a commentary as if this was a lesson at Spy School: "Most drug dealers armor and reinforce their doors. Few also think about reinforcing the wall next to the door. This is how duct tape and smarts help you to defeat them."

So, a lot of bad guys get a spanking, there's a lot more explosions in Miami than in Kabul while he's around, and he usually manages to frame other bad guys for it. The show is mostly great fun, not so much brooding psycho drama about people living a double life. The seven-season DVD box is available for comparatively small money (was made before the big transition to HD TV). Also, with Bruce Campbell as a co-star.

"Burn Notice" was definitely a big ratings hit on US tv during its original run.

It seems to me that WW just simply isn't your type of show but I commend you for at least giving it a good try!

I watched episode 7 on WW a few days ago and I kinda agree with NFB but for a different reason. WW's problem isn't that the show drags, but that we still don't give a #%&*$# about the characters. There's sort of a sympathetic vibe now with Dolores, but even Jesse Pinkman's character(err, sorry, Aaron Paul wink ), while we've learned more about him, still aren't very attached to him, nor his world.

Weirdly, I think his world, the real world, is the hardest part of the show to care about. I feel as if the writers assume we should care about humanity, but in reality they've managed to do something impossible--they've made the real world feel MORE sterile and robotic than the parks!

How the hell do you do that?!

They have. The real world feels pretty lifeless and more like a prop that exists for filming's sake and nothing more. So why should I care if Dolores destroys the real world? Why should I care if they save it? Why should I care about anything?

This season tried to pick up the pieces of Season 2 and they've done a pretty good job doing so, but they've done so by moving the plot faster without fleshing out everything else, in the meantime. It's almost as if they producers were rushed and we're being cheated out of the character drama that we deserve. Note to the writers: Not everything has to be a big deal, and repeatedly showing scenes or past events isn't helpful. We won't care because we're told to, we care because we want to.

I still am holding out hope that a theory I have will come true in episode 8. Shh, no spoilers.

No spoilers but I'm fairly convinced you will be blown away by the 2 post end credit scenes. They are big events.

I liked s1 and s2 but s3 has been a disappointment and it shouldn't. I was excited to find out that s3 will be in the real world but just like Mr Blastman said, now I don't care and I also don't care about any of the characters including returning characters. Dolores is the only character I care about.

For a minute there I liked Maeve being in World War II but they screw that up too.

The season would had been perfect if it was just 2 stories: Dolores kicking butt in the real world and Maeve kicking Nazis butt in WWII.

This is why I said the show is probably not for you because William (Man in Black), Arnold/Bernard, Halores (Delores inside the body of Charlotte Hale) and Caleb (Aaron Paul) are also critically important characters to the overall mythology of the series.

I think the issue is the writers are trying to do to much without the requisite skills needed to pull off the feat in their toolbox. You can have an amazing, twisting and turning plot, but with characters and a world you care about, and an epic twist that comes out of nowhere that changes everything up if you use your tools properly. Look at what Fight Club, or season 4 of Dexter, or Mr. Robot, or even the earlier seasons of Twelve Monkeys pulled off(to a lesser degree).

I'm keeping my mouth shut until I watch episode 8. It's 1.5 hours long though... Ugh. That's two nights worth of TV, and I reserve Fridays and Saturdays for movies. I wish I could watch a movie a night, but I've seen most of the good ones already, so I have to limit myself now. frown

Note to anyone here: Watching 900+ movies over a couple of years might be fun(or a great exercise of story making), but doing so leaves you with little to experience afterwards.

Bond movies:

the World is not enough. Decent movie except for one flaw: Denise Richards, who will join my list of worst Bond girls ever along with Tanya Roberts and Halle Berry, in the worst Brosnan's Bond film, Die another Day.

What a bad way for Brosnan to end his Bond films career: bad script, dreadful Madonna soundtrack, and the other Bond girl, Miranda Frost, she looks like she got something permanently lodged up her backside, that's how cringe is her acting.

Sophie Marceau in the World is not enough is beautiful and can act unlike Denise Richards who looks like a schoolgirl and does not have any acting skills.

Onward to Casino Royale.

To this day, I STILL see jokes being made about how little Denise Richards was convincing as a "nuclear physicist". LOL

It's crazy to think that the Daniel Craig Bond era started 14 years ago.

Casino Royale, the 21st Bond film and Daniel Craig's first Bond film.

This is a great film. One of the 5 Best Bond films along with Connery's From Russia with Love & Goldfinger and Moore's the Spy who Loved me & For your eyes Only.

This scene is pure gold!

I still remember when Craig was announced as the new James Bond:

how the internet exploded with people calling him James Blonde, James Bland.

Websites like danielcraigisnotbond were created.

Online campaign boycotted Craig and the film before filming has even began.

Remember this?

I watched "Crown Vic" last night.

Awesome cop movie, with a simple premise: "A night in the lives of two cops in a squad car."

Thomas Jane was fantastic.

When Casino Royale came out November 2006, I was more than old enuff for PG13 film and 3 weeks old enuff to drink. My sisters and brothers were minors. But you live at your Father's home you go by his rules.
