Nothing we do can is quite enough in bestowing honor to those who gave all for our freedom. But we must try.

Yesterday my wife and I were reminiscing with an old photo album of a trip we took together our senior year of high school to Washington, DC. Whoever planned the itinerary did a good job of including the Iwo Jima Memorial, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Vietnam Wall Memorial. I don't remember if all of these are located at Arlington Cemetery, but I do remember just how overwhelmingly massive Arlington Cemetery was, grave markers spanning as far as the eye could see.

Certainly a sobering experience, even for a bunch of 17 year-olds. I'd like to go back some day and revisit those sites.

The sun is in the east

RIP

I am a first generation American so I have not lost any relatives in military service to the US but i always try to be cognizant about the importance of Memorial Day.

Indeed it is. Both of my parents are buried there and I visit at least twice a year.

I haven't been to Arlington since I was probably around 10 years old. Still remember it vividly.

I have an Uncle buried there.

Like Archie said, God Bless em all.

I just stumbled onto this:

Quote
went to visit her late grandfather John Domenech’s grave when she had the idea to visit graves on the behalf of others who might not be allowed in the cemetery due to social distancing restrictions. Domenech tweeted, “Does anyone have buddies buried in Arlington who they would like visited today? Since only family members are allowed in, I would be honored to pay respects on your behalf…”

She ended up visiting and placing flowers on 60 graves. salute
