Well, the mini-series portrays him the way Ambrose did. Perhaps Ambrose was unfair, but his portrayal was based mostly on the memoirs and accounts from the Easy Company veterans, especially the officers. For sure, Sobel was considered by his peers and superiors to be incompetent as a company commander from a tactical perspective. His being relieved of company command and assigned to a training command prior to D-Day (and subsequently being stuck as a Captain for the rest of the war) was not a mini-series invention. He did eventually make Lt Colonel after being recalled to service in the Korean War.

Sobel himself attempted suicide in 1970, failed, but left himself blind. He died in 1987.

So yeah, I would say the Band of Brother's portrayal was more or less fair.

Yeah if I recall correctly some or all of Sobels' children pretty much disowned him for at least a time, so he was not a great guy.

I believe it was Guarnere who tried to contact Sobel and get him to attend reunions in the 60's etc. and he refused.

Big news here. "Greyhound" will not be released in movie theaters but instead Apple's streaming service.

I think more folks will stream than go to a theaters. Most theaters companies are not even open. There are no big movies for them to show. They are waiting for a big release and some of them won't be open until July. Will people still go to the cinemas in large herds? I doubt it. Theaters will also need to practice social distancing which means every other seat empty or completely removed - that will lower the number of tickets they can sell per each showing = lower box office return. This virus is changing the world in more ways than one.

People are still willing to see tentpole big budget movies in theaters but many will not return until a vaccine has been made according to many of the polls I've seen online. Considering that a vaccine is still about 12 months away according to the most optimistic sources, it is safe to say that we will be seeing a significant number of movie theater locations closing. Movie theaters will go through the same process that shopping malls have already been going through for the past several years. They will not entirely go away but there will be a significant downsizing.

Why Apple? Amazon has twice as many subscribers (100 million vs 47m) and Netflix has almost four times as many (183m).

My educated guess is that Apple offered the studio and Hanks the best deal.

I agree with Panzermeyer . As Dillon once sang The times they are a changing. Theaters and Malls are on the down slope of business. A return or close to one will only be possible with a Vaccine. I know that I am affect by the situation. I was watching 1960's Miss World Bathing suit pageant Clip on U tube and found myself wondering What the Winner Miss World would look like with a Mask

I was under the impression this was streaming this weekend for Father's Day. Now it's saying July 10th.

https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/trailers/1138391-bios-gets-new-release-date-new-greyhound-trailer

new trailer with so much CGI I swear even the Christmas tree is CGI.

Replaying the same dialogue over and over baffles me.

The film may turn out differently but quite honestly I'm not impressed by the trailer. It's just full of the old tired Hollywood tropes. And yes, the CGI is excessive to the point of being a distraction.

I think Tom Hanks looking younger is CGI too. It's looking more and more like that recent Midway movie.

The Midway movie got surprisingly decent reviews but it still flopped at the box office. At least Emmerich put some of his own money into the making of the film. I admire that.

Reminder Greyhound will be avail on Apple TV this Friday, most likely at 1 minute after midnight on Friday morning California time.

I think it won't be good and it's only 91 minutes long counting credits (one of the rotten reviews below says it's 80 minutes without credits), that's like a 2 hours TV movie including commercial interruptions..

I'm not interested in seeing it based on the multiple trailers I've seen. This very much seems to be in the same vein as "Fury". In other words, over-blown and exaggerated combat scenes for the sake of making the movie "interesting" for a modern audience.

I really hope it's good. We need more good war movies. I have to agree about Fury, mostly ruined by one part, but still forgettable even outside of that. MIdway was ok, better than the original, but that's a low bar. 1917 was amazing. I'm still absorbing that one and how they filmed it like it was one long shot. From day to night to day and it didn't seem rushed somehow?
