I’ve been reading quite a bit on 18th century military history recently and I learned some new details about a certain general which were real eye openers for me. This guy:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.history.com/.amp/topics/american-revolution/benedict-arnold

1. I was not aware that his wife was a Loyalist and after reading about her personality and family connections I can easily see why she easily swayed an opportunist and narcissist like Arnold to betray America.

2. The most disturbing fact I read though was this:

“He led a force of more than 1,700 men which burned most of New London to the ground on 4 September, causing damage estimated at $500,000.[109] They also attacked captured Fort Griswold across the river in Groton, Connecticut, slaughtering the Americans after they surrendered following the Battle of Groton Heights”.

It’s no surprise that Arnold was disliked by many even in England and Canada where he lived after the war. How does the saying go? No one likes a traitor.

funnily enough I'm currently rereading this
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16073301-the-men-who-lost-america
might help 'see things from the other side'- and appreciate how much the issue was not as straightforward in England at the time as the 'conventional' history would suggest?

Thanks for this recommendation! I will be adding this to my reading list.

Which War of Independence general was a woman?

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Just watched the video. The guy has a good sense of humor!
