Request for Pol,

Any chance you would be willing to make a single thread for WOFF 2020 content updates. Doesn't mean you need to make regular updates, etc. Just that when you do post them, videos, pics, written info, it will all be in a single thread for us folks to comb through. Just a thought. Thanks for all that you do to keep this sim growing and the WWI flight genre in general alive and well.

Sure, we as usual weren't ready to post anything major but I posted a few snippets on the Facebook page and some in reply to particular issues etc but will try to post in a thread here.

Just reposting Pols video for the WOFF 2020 work in progress. I really like how the pilot's head doesn't just turn, but also looks up and down like he's scanning the skies. The engine animations and light wing buffeting really add a lot to the immersive of flight. I am very excited to see these added immersion factors put into the sim.

From Polovski's post on the WOFF Facebook page

Dev Update 1st May 2020.

I have been working more on the SE5a - improved exhaust, engine area and radiator (also added scoop underneath). WM has added more cool features to the runtime code and is currently adding more to WOFF manager including some nice changes to how player, squadron and ace craft are allocated. We also have now various different faces/scarfs in the aircraft - currently test in SE5a and Albatros D.III. More on what's added and a video later...

From Polovski's post on the WOFF Facebook page

Dev Update 25 April 200

Work continues on the next WOFF adding and testing animations and so on. But to help a little with the boredom here's a small snippet here, new updated radiator for SE5a. Other parts may be worked on too.

From Polovskis post on the WOFF Facebook page

17 March 2020

WOFF Development Update

Hello everyone, hope you are all staying safe.

Currently, we are working on a new expansion of WOFF. Full details of its contents and how it will be available will appear at a later date. We believe it’s going to be yet another game changer as several areas will be worked on and improved.

One important area is our AI - already the best in WW1 flight sims - this is being overhauled further and improved in many areas to up the immersion! New AI code to allow new appropriate decisions. Dogfights are more dynamic and intense, and now often lasting longer. During a fight, AI Pilots will still at some point try to escape the fight (at great risk to themselves) to get back over their lines as really happened in WW1, however they will be more aware of the fight around them and will re-engage combat if necessary whilst looking for their exit!

AI are more aware of enemies in all the various tasks they do and will be able to defend themselves better. For example when landing or taking off they will better able to react to immediate threats.

The Observer gunners are improved, for example new code allows the Fe2b to operate as a fighter! Gunners will be more responsive.

We have added a new REPLAY function so after the mission you can see what happened, with many filters and slick ways to watch it.

There will be new aircraft and some updates to many other aircraft.

These are just a few of the new changes, and we hope to post more details in the future.

[in a comment from the post he stated the following]

Over the last few days we have, with the help of Dan Holtz, been adding 'nice to have' extras for example ability to reload the Lewis gun and so on - it has been proving trickier than we first thought, but we hope to have this and other features in there too!

To the best of my knowledge, we are up to date on all that's been teased or released so far. If anyone is aware of other posts by Pol or WindingMan specifically regarding WOFF 2020, please let me know. Exciting times are still ahead for WOFF.

One from the other side, and a new inspection window added with glass etc. We aim to redo some parts of the textures, for example to remove some parts that are now more detailed etc and add some parts.

Pol... I see the Albatros mentioned...hmmm. what updates are we going to see

I've been thinking it might be time to refresh the old D.II. it's really long in the tooth at this point in WOFF's lifespan.

Well I will do as many as possible before the glue wears on this seat. The DIII has been updated with new anims as per the vids etc, and I improved various areas on there as the vids above. Not sure I can do all the Albs but will see.

On thing I would like to ask the dev team on campaign is to play a "replacement pilot" when the player pilot is killed:
If a pilot is killed, offer the option to the player to create a new pilot who would join the player squadron the day he is killed, or at the expected date of replacement.
This is something very immersive because we have the feeling to follow the history of the squadron as the squadron would retain the history and what happened during the previous career.

An excellent idea - the current way, for example, Kiener was one of the pilots based at Ghistelles, flying with v. Pranz. After v. Pranz lost a wing in an unfortunate balloon attack, I had to open up a new pilot profile, for Kiener, and set him to the day after Pranz was killed. The problem there is that all of the other, old names that were based at the 'drome also disappear once a new pilot career is opened. I don't mind doing this the manual way - although it is problematic if there are successful kills assigned to one of the "wingmen" in the duty roster - and then that wingman goes back to zero once you start him up as a new pilot profile, losing his previous kills. Although I can always make up a story that the kills were pending but never verified. But your idea is a fine one - more immersion for a squadron that way.

You can use Pilot Log Editor. Simply create new pilot and transfer him to existing unit. All pilots will be preserved and you come to the same squadron that your dead pilot left.

Of course they have animated a pilot, various vibrations in the cockpit and externally.

Thank you for this info. JJJ - will give it a go should I lose a pilot and see how it works.

Great updates on those early Albies Pol, very nice.

Small interesting update for WOFF 2020....

WM added the ability to re-enlist in a squadron to be, in effect, your own deceased pilot's replacement.

Hahaha... That was a great day!! I still remember your helicopter story... And how we got to see the WWI display up close and personal a la "New York" style.

A memory I'll never forget!

Again, you can use Pilot Log Editor.

Jara, can you use PLE to transfer a pilot from Esc. Lafayette to other U.S. unit when it is disbanded?

From any unit to any unit, even to enemy .-). However, we are spoiling this thread, sorry. For any question let us move to Mods/Pilot Log Editor thread.

Which means if you die you can continue at the date in your current squad and with the same AI-mates with a replacement pilot. cheers

And look who's getting a well-deserved facelift. I have to say that the quality of the model Polovski has made for this and the D.II is fantastic!
Base skin was originally done by Paarma and myself ages ago... but I've been reworking it with new insignias, wing patterns, and many other smaller details we missed back then.
So nice to see this one and the D.II with this level of quality in WOFF.

Not sure I mentioned this new feature - don't have time to read through wink but as posted in another thread..

WOFF 2020 has around 70+ new features and changes already, one of which is a much improved inventory management options and one of those cool new features allows you the player to assign any general squad aircraft that is in your current squadron inventory to yourself or to other pilots. So if your squadron currently has 3 types of aircraft you can assign any of those 3 to anyone (although you cannot change historical Aces).

That sounds amazing! Over 70 new features and changes including aircraft inventory management? Sounds like an expansion not to miss. Thanks for the update Pol!

This fixes one of my recent pet-peeves. When deploying a new pilot in a campaign, I choose an aircraft I want to fly and get assigned (randomly) to a squadron where the plane is starting to become available. As the new guy, I get assigned one of the older planes, so I don't get to fly the plane I asked for.

Well done, you're fixing things before we complain about them biggrin.

Hiya Shred. Makai never saw the D.I. Paarma and I did a mish-mash of parts between us to quickly slap together a skin using the wings from my Alb D.III and Paarma's wood texture.

On the D.II, I will however preserve as much of Makai's insignia and artwork where possible as a show of respect and appreciation to our old friend. I remember all the emails we sent back and forth when he was skinning that and I was cutting my teeth on the Triphound then a very early crappy looking D.III skin.

Jeeze...time flies ..

Hi all – it has been quite sometime since I have posted here or been flying woff but back into it and absolutely enjoying everything again - with the upcoming potential for aircraft assignment – may I ask when I go out with my flight is it possible that each plane can have a unique ID number even if sharing a skin – to keep the immersion up rather than flying with a bunch of “carbon copies“

I am not sure if that is at all possible or even possibly occurring already?

Cannot wait to see what is to come - Certain to be brilliant as always

Thanks to the developers and all of you for all contributions and ongoing efforts
Cheers Ron

oh boy smile will be fantastic!

i have been wondering about a couple of items ...

when a plane crashes ... is there anyway to keep at least a 'decal' of crash site present on the ground? and can the smoke, which right now appears a bit like a uniform 'vector' maybe in direction of wind ... be changed to a more fluid simple 'undulating animation' not necessarily tied to wind direction?

sorry if not the right time or place to ask - but have been curious if those types of moves are possible or not?

regards, Ron

So, will we have one of the 70+ improvements announced each week until the release? Maybe two? Just an idea...

I'm hoping it doesn't take 70 weeks to complete. That would release WOFF 2020 sometime in 2021. I guess we'll know if Pol renames it. wink

70 weeks OMG I have just loaded the Webley.

OK first snippet:

This is an expansion so you will need to own WOFF UE already. We MAY (TBC) have two upgrade paths, one at a much lower price for PE owners.
Anyone reading who has not yet got hold of WOFF please don't hold off buying we need your support - and it's needed to use WOFF 2020.

Here's one of the changes...

1) AI 'Landing' or 'Going Home' are now more aware of enemy activity and react accordingly with 'Urgent Defence' on 'close proximity threat detection' even before a potential attacker shoots etc.
They bypass any Morale Factors as it's an Urgent reaction.
Note: AI pilots may sometimes still not see the enemy approaching and then may still not react.
Note2: Aircraft that are Landing - if they are "On Beam" Final Descent to runway/field) then they will not abort the Landing.
Many variables for reaction to 'close proximity threats' when 'Landing' or 'Going Home' such as
Skill/Weather/Visibility/AI Vision/Fuel/Ammo/Aircraft Type/Health of Pilot/Aircraft Damage

Love this “Urgent Defence“ mechanism. Finally one will think twice about camping over enemy aerodrome. Even following a retreating enemy won’t be an easy kill anymore. Thank you Pol for this gift. Please Sir, may I have some more?

The AI improvements sound good. With the upcoming aircraft assignment will the game also automatically assign one type of plane to any one flight rather than the current mix where low rank player might end up being lead by a pilot flying a plane with much better climb rate and cruise speed?

I also have a question about the contents of WoFF Platinum Edition: The list of new features on the PE store page mentions "New aircraft coming in 2020" which I assumed were part of the product but here I'm getting the impression that they will be part of the next paid update instead. So does PE actually include the new aircraft or not?

The aircraft assignment is totally different including Historical Aces so you will just have to wait and see. The point of the new options allow YOU the player to change any aircraft in your flight so really it doesn't matter. You cannot change aircraft that are assigned to the HA's, and only stock you have can be assigned (or put on order).

The new aircraft coming 2020 referred to more future addons and was a tagged line under item 28 which had new squadrons to allow new aircraft etc.

But actually as always things may change, there may or may not be new ones in WOFF 2020, even if there are not there's a possibility there still could be more new aircraft in 2020 and 2021 - depends on how much content we have by the time of release and what is finished.

Urgent Defence sounds like a fantastic new layer of realism and immersion to the WOFF experience. Awesome new addition. Thanks for the info, Pol! Much appreciated.

Nice. One other odd AI behavior I've noticed most of the time, is the AI fighter escorts run away when they spot attackers.

You mean all this juicy info was posted since the 11th and nobody noticed? Oh, the shame!
Looking forward to the new rotary engine models. Does this fix that weird look when the airplane model was seen from further away? You know what I mean?

Yes it seems to be so Fullofit - if you mean the rotary engines seem to show through cowls at a distance sometimes.

This update will be a huge leap. Woff is a wonderful sim. Absolutely the nearest thing to a time machine!

It might not be quite the sort of new feature you could splash across a big announcement all on its own, but Lewis guns having to be reloaded with new drums is easily in the top three of the announced features for me. Can't wait for this to come out!

WIP pics of the new Albatros D.I and D.II.

The D.I has a mishmash marking as I was still working on the details.
The D.II is a finished skin of Ernst Freiherr von Stenglin of Jasta 1.

Again, these are work in progress pics. I have to say I am very happy with the new D.I/D.II model. Some points to note are the actual modeled engine louvers, dual sided wheels, tight cowling, wires, and many mapping corrections. Also, the skin is now at a higher resolution.

The base wood pattern and several details in the skin is Paarma's, while I jumped in and went with wing patterns, details and many other aspects. A fun dual effort by the two of us. In honor of Makai who originally painted the D.II, I will be using many wing patterns, and markings from his original skins wherever possible.

OK next snippet of changes for WOFF 2020 that have been completed;
Nos 2 and 4 are related to no1 (posted here )
but still needed new or different code to perform this during other AI directives..

2) AI in 'Transit' now ALWAYS scan for 'close proximity threats', this is irrespective of the Transit 'Search Intercept' waypoint directive.
Search Intercept is a long range scan directive and is only performed if the AI are directed to do so in the mission file.
Close Proximity Threats are a short range scan - these are now always carried out.
Note: Aircraft may sometimes still not 'see' the close proximity threat approaching and then not react.
The variables for a reaction to 'close proximity threats' when in 'Transit' are: Standard Fight 'Morale Factors' (extensive checks e.g.: Numerical Odds of the two flights, Altitudes, Directions, AI Morale, AI Skill, Aircraft Type, Distance from Frontlines etc etc, Weather/Visibility, Do they actually spot the attacker? (human error),
Fuel and Ammunition status, Craft type, Health (Craft and Pilot damage states).

3) A2S: Fighters doing successive passes will now U turn closer to the target e.g. 'airfield attacks' and or 'balloon attacks'

4) AI 'Taking Off' are now more aware of enemy activity and react accordingly with 'Urgent Defense' on 'close proximity threat detection' even before a potential attacker shoots etc.
They do not assess any Morale Factors hence it's an Urgent reaction.
Note: Aircraft may sometimes still not 'see' the enemy approaching and then may still not react.
Note2: Aircraft must be in 'Form up' stage of takeoff before they will react - they cannot react when on the field, climbing out or levelling off - for obvious reasons
Again there are many variables for reaction to 'close proximity threats' when 'Taking Off' such as Skill, Weather/Visibility, Do they actually spot the attacker? (human error), Fuel and Ammunition status, Craft type, Health (Craft and Pilot damage states).

Thanks Pol for the update. I do like #3!
Now, during those scans is the AI blinded by the sun? Should we even bother attacking with the sun behind? Currently it doesn’t seem to make much difference. It feels like the AI’s vision isn’t affected by the sun glare.

an "urgent reaction" would be great to have for the escorting command in mission file, too. For fighter escorts if possible.

I think the urgent reaction item is a great addition to the AI behavior, and should significantly reduce the number of "sitting ducks" who are going home and don't seem to notice the hostile aircraft sneaking up on their tail.

I suggest a +1 or a +2 moral bonus for scouts when they are performing as escorts. They should be more afraid of feeling the boot heel of their commander for failing to protect the escorts than they fear getting shot at!

Guys it's not a suggestions thread please, there's a thread for that already. There's a lot more changes I have not listed yet.

There's a new feature to allow engaging BEFORE checking morale for a period and so on.

Alb D.II in the works.... 1916 vs 1917 markings. Will be more mixed and matched and painted over for the higher Jastas that were known to receive "hand-me-downs" as the upper Jastas began to receive and use new equipment.

Please notice that except from some early planes and prototypes the Johannisthal and LVG machines had the fuselage crosses shifted to the tail,

Thanks for this elephant. I only have a few D.I profiles to go by... JFM's book and the lot of the old skins. So I'm doing what I can to make it right. Although I have come across quite a few pics that show the fuse crosses in different locations...

BTW.. Who flew that No.7 D.I? If you know who it is, what Jasta and the colors of the markings, I could possibly put it in the game.

Thanks,

OvS

I'm sorry Rick, that's just something I don't ever do. Two reasons... my templates are layered really thick with tons of layers... and this particular template is not only my work, but Parrma's as well.

Quite right Hellshade smile

Some more of the new features include:

- Improved Collision Avoidance routines especially with regard to fast fighter boom attacks on slow moving targets - NOTE! Collisions will still occur just as in real life due to pilot error!

- Implemented dynamic air turbulence which makes each craft look more real as the pilots jostle to keep formation individually - varies each mission with some overriding criteria:
> 1) Depends on local wind speed - and weather patterns
> 2) Clear days may be turbulent or smoother
> 3) Gets worse in cloud

> Improved in cloud air turbulence.

> Implemented extra workshops setting that allows player to have wind affecting AI aircraft but not his own aircraft

- AI will now spend more time in 'A2A_Seek' looking for targets in A2A before going to A2A_Formup, also revised the limits on number of attackers per target.

- AI that are in A2A_Formup now 'check tail' to defend against potential attackers

and here the SE5, improved engine and cowl areas, radiator, wheels and more. Here it appears to have lost a wheel..

There is certainly a wonderful package of new features coming – in two weeks, of course. That SE jockey seems to be working on my own patented technique for circuits and bumps.

I'm a bit surprised there wasn't more of a reponse to Pols latest post, especially since it contains something that addresses a concern I've seen voiced by some.

- AI will now spend more time in 'A2A_Seek' looking for targets in A2A before going to A2A_Formup, also revised the limits on number of attackers per target.

I presume that means it's less likely that players will now feel like all AI eyes are on them, ignoring their AI wingmen. If it pans out, I hope that results in a more even distribution of enemy planes against one another instead of hogpiling on the player.

Also the A2A Seek after form up to check their 6 o'clock is great too. I will be curious to see how this balances out with AI morale who start running for home. Will they re-engage if they still feel threatened? Not necessarily looking for answers. Just excited to see how it plays out in the sky.

I do like that feature where the pilots don't become instant lawn darts after diving on low flying enemy planes in death throes. Well done!
That looks like a lot of AI work. Are you guys sure you're not working for Cyberdyne Systems?
Oh dear, even more turbulence for the poor N.11. Yikes!

A little sneak peak at what's coming up for the new Albatros D.II skin set.

1. Don't pay attention to the mapping issues... I know about it. This is a WIP and some of the models have not been updated in my game.
2. Note the variety of the markings: both size and style. These are transition skins... inspired by many photos I have seen that look very similar to this line-up.

Beautiful stuff! Always loved the snowy landscape, anyway, so that's a bonus too!

At any rate stache (Mike) has some alb info and I had asked him to reach out to you To get it to you if it would be helpful

Did you see the pm from him - he said he had tried to reach you

Last look of the new Alb D.II skin set. Thanks to all the folks that sent me all the great info that I was able to generate a much more historic look and color wing set that looks color correct to the game.

Also note the new correct German national insignia for the D.II. I had them wrong... and the "paint-over" look as if done in the field as it work historically.

2 more weeks... HAHAHAHA!

The first time I viewed this picture something just didn't seem right to me. Tonight I went back and increased the screen resolution to 100% and sure enough, I knew it, this Se5 is fly fishing for DVIIFs with a #7 line and a 3 pound tippet. I think DVIIF season is actually over, but mums the word here mates! winkngrin

Blade, it is the safety tether, so that the wheel won't hit the spectators when it detaches.

No No No! I used to be a professional Fly Fishermen back in the day Sir, even built my own poll and tied my own flies. This is a classic case of Fly Fishing, cane poll, no reel, set length line, light tippet and a barb less hook. It is the purest style of Fly Fishing with a new twist to stir the interest of all the young bucks. Trolling with an Se5! yep

Pol, isn’t it time for another feature reveal? Hope it’s a screenshot of an unrecognizable part of the new plane!

And now for some more info:

> Improved formation target selection criteria when scanning skies to prevent chasing targets that are 'running' at medium range or greater,
or re-engaging targets that have previously been abandoned in A2A.

> Revised Speeds at which craft explode when flipping over - craft should now be less likely to explode - also improved pilots survivability in 'on ground' crashes.

Also, on this point aircraft now have damageable gear as shown in my previous post with the SE5 pic and landing without gear is more interesting now wink

> Ground proximity now has less of a bearing on AI reaction to threats.

> Aircraft will now start fighting for a period of time before doing morale checks to prevent immediately switching out of A2A and running.

> Reduced frequency of 'all 4 wing' failures.

> Improved Ground Avoidance code (now as per WOTR).

> Lots of improvement work on terrain, including small towns, better trees, improved railyards, many changes to get a more natural look! More colours, more blending and the area outsde of the WW1 area now will look more natural and much more (and more to come).

Some stunning views now (Work in Progress) :

Stunning! All of the changes sound like the immersion will be stepping up even higher, but those two pictures take the cake. Absolutely gorgeous! Pol, have you and your testers noted any concerning FPS changes?

Lovely. Just lovely!
I’m liking all those improvements to the AI.
Is this the new terrain xjouve was working on?
Also, are those new wheels on that Nieuport? That, and the engine of course.

Well spotted Fullofit. There are many aircraft with new or improved wheels - the Nieuport 11 has some improvements the wheels are the same but there are wheel wing nuts etc.

Not sure if WM has xjouve's terrain in - but xjouve seems to have vanished so it is the same one that is out there if it is.

That is truly breathtaking...no doubt whatsoever you guys have some of the best-looking scenery of any sim, ever. I have actually flown small GA two-seat prop jobs before, and that pic just looks real.

Sounds like some excellent changes both under the hood and in the visual department. WOFF 2020 certainly has plenty of upgrades to be excited about. Thanks for sharing, Pol!

Pol, as stated before, that scenery is definitely VFR quality! That's something never seen before in a WWI sim. Amazing work!

Hiya buddy! Good to see you still around.

I can say we're still a ways out .. but it's getting closer. I'm 75% done with my new Alb D.II skin set... And have a bunch of other skins to color correct. And now I see why... Hahaha.

I hope all is well with you!

As long as it's still due in 2020, I'm good with that. Looks like plenty of great stuff is getting put into the sim, so it will be worth the wait!

Yep - still here! Feeling fortunate that you and the gang are still around keeping WOFF running and adding to the amazing world we get to fly in with each passing year. Looking forward to getting the latest installment!

What WOFF excels at, better than all the others, is scale. Clouds can look huge and majestic. You feel tiny compared to the world as you should, unlike other similar sims.

That's a very good point! I don't think I've every read or heard anyone ever say that... but its very true. DCS and a heavily modified FSX made me feel the same when I was flying... as does WOFF. It has a lot to do with the amount of scenery at distance, and how well things are scaled.

Hallo @Pol,

WOW, I haven't expected such terrain! Compliment!

Short question:
My favorite region is Alsace. Do you know, if the town Mulhouse will have houses/civilisation with the new expansion? You can see only the main-streets, unfortunately not more so far (I know, @Xyouve has done it with his landscape-mod, but it would be nice, to have it with default too).

Thanks for answer and Greetings!

Well a lot has changed but I have no idea if that particular town is different - I don't have the time to go flying around too many places.

Can’t wait to see that animated engine in action. We’ll be discovering little touches like this for the next two years. So, how close are you to the release? Will I have enough time to spend my money on other trinkets before the next paycheque?
(Psst ... Pol, the port side of the rudder appears to have the mapping shifted down - there is a white and brown artefact at the tip of it.)
Lookin’ good!

The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain,
From out of my arse take the camshaft,

We have a long way to go yet won't be coming in "2 weeks" is all I can say,

Ah yes I noticed the mapping glitch will fix when I get to that area. There are a few things to finish still very much WIP.

BTW the "mapping issue" on the tail of the BE2HD is actually on the original skin not the model mapping. Other other skins do not show that. - not sure that is correct - could be.

Here's another pic.

I did that one Pol. Are you talking about the black tip on the rudder? I can't tell by the pic. I think that's supposed to be there on both sides? I'd have to look at the original template.

I see it now... Looks like the rudder is mapped too high on the template. It looks like an end to a part of some sort. I'm at work, so I can't look at the skin.

Oooo, Pol that is nice. I was trying to zoom in and I realized I wasn't in the game. Darn!

OvS, I had a look at the skin. It looks like the tan paint didn't go all the way to the top of the rudder on that one side. The white and red rudder of the original template shows through. Good thing it's just that one skin and not all of the Albatros skins.

Good news is I just finished the D.II lot! Wait till you see them!

I said I wouldn't... but why not... hahaha! (it's kinda like hanging out with an old girlfriend...just can't help it...hahaha)

First.. thank you to all the guys that sent me all this great info and books! Here are some of the results...

Never seen before in any WWI Simulator (game) to date... Full Jasta line-ups...loaded... and this is still without the new version of WOFF! Can't wait to see the new assignments and look of the new vsersion!

Jasta 19 - February 1917... key notes: Albatros D.II with "Di" logo - I discovered on page 32 picture 78 of Windsock 100. I suspect to have been Walter Dingle's mount of Jasta 19. Other pilots Hahn, Rahn, Henkel (not seen) are fictitious imagined using similar technique of the original Jasta artist.
Jasta 23(b) - Feburary 1917 - key notes: Jasta 23 was the first unit to incorporate unit wide insignia. Flying LVG built D.II's will give them a totally difernt look. Jasta 16 flys them as well, along with a few others. The personal markings are all from actual books and descriptions. The forground D.II that is darker (Bruno Breitenbach) is actually stained and varnished. As LVG had suggested. This same technique is applied to many, but not all. You will see a lot of variation in the look of these planes... directly from page 35 picture 87 of same book.

Zoofa!

OvS

PS... ignore all mapping issues... that's because the models are not the new updated version... wait till you see those !!! WOW!!! 2 more weeks!!

Looking great!

You think you could add the LVG-style weights table? I can send you a psd file of one.

Done already! wink The font is not like that, but it's there. Send it anyway, I'll take a look... always appreciate the info. Still have my email?

Only the LVG has them, and also the LVG logo on the tail under the national insignia. I went with a three color paint style for the LVG as it was suggested.

Jasta 2 and Jasta 17 in full line-up... with some pilots resting, so could be even more on another day/flight.

I can only say great things about Shred for going into the level of detail he did to put so many pilots active in the game. It's as if you are really part of a living squadron, regardless of choice.

Ultimately it would be incredible to have a skin for every active pilot, not just aces we know of. Then you would see how definitive this game really is. I've never seen anything like it before, and never will again.

Another factor which this sim excels at, IMHO: Representing different skins, at the same time, for historical planes/pilots. I mean, it really is remarkable...like stepping back in time, seeing the rows of Albatros machines in full glory with colorful livery. Gives one a heightened sense of how the name "Flying Circus" came about.

Beautiful work.

Here's some new pictures from WOFF 2020 work in progress ... All the scenery has been updated, including areas outside of the usual WW1 zones.

New villages spread throughout the land :

The new features are so many now, and the list has not been internally updated for a few weeks, but here are a few meaty items ...

- Collision damage physics and effects associated with ground objects, scenery objects, terrain, and other aircraft overhauled and new effects implemented and or revised.

- Progressive damage now modelled for main wings - AI and Player

Which means if you have wing tip damage you had better get out of the action soon, perhaps the wing will begin to fail...

- All aircraft range/durations adjusted to be as near to actual as possible.

- FE2b can now fight more as a fighter it has new code to allow this specific case.

- Implemented a new mission replay function

(not to re-fly but to watch how the mission unfolded with various filtering options),

I mentioned the scenery is totally massively overhauled including much better blending and more, so we will have more on that later...

Ooh, ooh,.......very very nice and since it is called to 2020 release I guess that implies this year, RIGHT??

Pol, I am reflecting on your comment "scenery has been updated, including areas outside of the usual WW1 zones." Would this imply other countries currently within the WOFF map such as Italy for example? Just trying to clarify your statement.

Best Regards

Yes Robert the front is updated as is England, but any generic areas not on the Western front / England also look very cool now, including Germany for example.

We hope we can keep it 2020, but you know how 2 weeks wizzes by.

Uff, and all these things with the old cfs3-engine!
I see my good old system smoking, hear it like the roaring engine of a crashing plane, feel the wind in my face because of the overdriving air cooler, … .

Seriously:
Great @Pol, simply great!

Thanks for info and greetings

It just keeps getting better and better. Thank you for sharing Pol! It really is appreciated. It certainly does sound like you guys are flat out on making additions and improvents.

[edit] Just adding a few other pics Pol posted on the WOFF Facebook group.

Pol, does that mean there will be less wings getting ripped off without a prior visual cue? I hate it when they just come off. Will we be able to spot the imminent catastrophe and nurse our bird back to base on a wing and a prayer?

I guess it depends on how you are losing wings, but the visual clue will be you have for example a wing tip missing wink .. then it's a good possibility if you fly on it will rip the rest off. If you overspeed there will now be prop whine, your wires start to "sing" and the aircraft will vibrate as you increase speed. If you are hearing and seeing all that you have some clues. Also over stress the creaking sound is there for a reason, too much and it will rip something off. Ease off in the turn or pull up if you hear creaking.
(There are also less wings ripping off in 1 go too).
