I'm a sucker for well done clouds in flight simulations. Which is one reason I'm looking forward to MSFS 2020.

However they're not the only ones working on good stuff:

That is fantastic looking, especially from such a small team (one guy?) and budget. 2020 and 2021 are looking good for flight sims.

The rusty wire that holds the cork that keeps the anger in
Gives way and suddenly it’s day again
The sun is in the east
Even though the day is done
Two suns in the sunset, hmph
Could be the human race is run

Very cool! Now those are what clouds should look and feel like in a flight sim of today. I really love and there is just something special about that thick, low level rolling cloud cover that casts swaths of shadows across land and sea at such a low altitude and then you can see breaks in the clouds or punch through and be above the cover where its sunny and clear.

Does anyone know, or does it seem like with today's standard gaming hardware that cloud rendering seems to be less performance heavy than years ago?

I wonder why DCS doesn't try to make weather and cloud improvements or perhaps allow a 3rd party to try just like MFS had all those great third party weather, cloud addons?

Best clouds I've ever seen in a sim. I don't care if it is Microprose caliber realism, either. Looks like it could be fun!

It's been happening for years now that the GPU is becoming the new CPU smile more and more rapid calculations suitable for CUDA are being shoveled onto the GPU. Eventually it may be worth having a second/extra GPU not for rendering, but for other parallel rapid simple calculations.

DCS weather is OK... clouds could do with some variation but they're not actually bad smile would be pretty sweet to have these types of clouds also, maybe that guy could earn a sideline fortune by releasing that cloud tech as a plugin/SDK. Would be pretty sweet to see that in ArmA for example.
