Wiki says the US Navy sunk one of those Iranian Frigates in 1988 during the Iran Iraq war

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Praying_Mantis

and ever since, the Iranian Navy no longer put those Frigates out cause they are no match for the U.S. Navy, but I guess they think they little toy boats they sent to harass the U.S. Navy and the Royal Navy are a match against those Western navies.

The Iranian Navy has 3 "full size" submarines (~30 year old Russian Kilos) that are small by any modern navy's standard. They have one vessel they call a destroyer that is on par displacement wise with modern navy frigates and they have half dozen or so vessels they call frigates that are really, by size, nothing more than corvettes/patrol boats.

They don't just have the little patrol boats and gunboats and corvettes we see on the news harassing Western countries navies. I wonder why they don't attempt to come at the Western navies with those Frigates and Submarines? It's like bringing a knife to a gun fight.

Do you really think the Iranians are trying to win a naval engagement using those small boats?

The harrasment is for propaganda and/or provocation.

They can record footage of 'challenging the Great Satan's' navy, edited and narrated to suit their purpose.

If they do manage to sufficiently provoke the U.S. Navy, they may try to use that as justification to bring their land based missiles to bear. It would almost certainly prove to be an unwise decision, but that doesn't necessrily mean they won't make it. If things get bad enough domestically for the Mullahs, they may start viewing that idea as feasible. Likewise is things in the U.S. look bad enough to the Mullahs to the point that they think they can get away with it.

Found out about them from this episode I just watched

They are state of the art and even have Phalanx, Bofors, and SeaRAM.

Never has applied PanzerMeyer. My Pop spent 10 years in Navy Subs (Bashaw, Nautilus, Skate, Skipjack) and 10 in the CG on ice breakers. He spent as much time deployed (if not more) in the CG as he did in the Navy.

No. "for but not with" additional weapon systems and sensors.

Fitting SeaRAM replaces Phalanx, not augments it, and 'as designed' at least wasn't the fitted armament.

CIWS is not terribly useful, so dropping it, while retaining the Bofor and HMGs might be worthwhile, but already they are playing juggling with borderline capabilities.
