It's an interesting aircraft and has always been a favourite of mine. It looks 'odd' if that's the correct word,with its rear mounted engine,tricycle undercarriage and cockpit door.

Rejected by the RAF for use over Europe it did find favour however with the Russians who did very well with it.

Recently added to my IL-2 hanger.

37mm cannon firing through the nose, which is why the engine was in the centre of the plane.

The P-39 may be slower than several of the other fighters but if you hit something with that 37mm cannon it is not going anywhere but down!!
