75 years ago on May 8th, 1945, was VE Day, Victory In Europe Day,
The day the Allies celebrated the acceptance of Nazi Germany unconditional surrender officially ending World War II in Europe that lasted 5 years 8 months 7 days and took up to 60 million lives worldwide.
The Queen of England plan to address the nation at 11 am London time on May 8th and then observe 2 minutes of silence nationwide.
I doubt there will be much celebrating and remembrance here in the USA.
America was not directly affected by the war in the same way many Europeans and Eastern Europeans and Far East countries were.
The country of the United States was not bombed by the Germans and the Japanese.
Yes, the USA sacrificed over 405,000 lives but there was no devastation of Continental United States cities.
Most Americans nowadays do not know what World War II, what it stood for, what effect it had on the course of human history and on the United States, Europe and Asia or care.
They care more about fattening their bank accounts, having the latest gadgets and flashy car, getting recognized on social media and complaining about everything in life in general.
I am irritated that Most Americans people all over the world do not know about World War II or remember it.
There, fixed it for you.

The Napoleonic Wars are forgotten , WW1 is all but forgotten and in another generation or so WW2 will be forgotten. It is the way of the world.
I did very much enjoy the Movietone newsreel and noted that QE2 was in uniform and that both Parliament and the KIng both chose to give thanks to God for victory

It’s not surprising when you realize that most Americans also can’t find Austria on a map or list the major points of the Bill of Rights but like F4U mentioned, this is not a unique American problem.

Assuming they're interested, when I'm gone my nieces and nephews are going to inherit a collection of war media...
...and that's just scratching the surface.
