Barely passed my Advanced Excel Final today with a 71%. It was two parts Part 1 I finished in a couple of hours and scored a 91.5%. I spent over FOUR hours on Part 2 and scored... 51.3% So that's 71% for the final. I HATE Nested Functions ! I messed up two of them and those errors made almost everything after them wrong. Thankfully, I have worked my butt off all semester and ended up with a 92% final grade for the class. I'll take the "A". Next up my Organizational Behavior final BS paper. I am fighting hard to get a "B" in the class, but they don't seem to appreciate my gloating about failed globalism, or they are just denying the recent ramifications. The class is PC to the max, and I will probably end up with my second "C" in a couple of years. I know, boring... right? Sorry, just winding down. Rough afternoon.

My wife recently got her degree in geology. She stressed continually about her grades. She has always considered anything less than an A to be unacceptable. She had one class that was particularly stressful for her. I asked her "do you ask a doctor what his GPA was before he examines you?" Of course her answer was 'no'. I told her, as long as she passed the class, not to worry about the GPA. I don't think it helped.
Good luck on the rest of your classes, Nixer!

LOL Longbow, and thanks. You trying to make my brain hurt again? No doubt there is a way, If nested combined with hlookup but... Pretty sure my computer would lock up pretty quick as there is an infinite number of columns as far as I know. JCathhart: Thanks sir. What gets me most is the complete lack of real world business experience in the business/management department, at least at my school And plenty of moonbeam dreams and unicorn ideas. This semester was the last straw, I am switching my major to... Public Policy and AdministrationYep, they are letting the fox loose in the hen house.

Congrats! I know enough about Excel to know that I actually know *nothing* about it even though I've used it for years for basic stuff.

What gets me most is the complete lack of real world business experience in the business/management department, at least at my school And plenty of moonbeam dreams and unicorn ideas. Most universities exist in their own separate world from the real world and I would bet that most of those business school/management professors have never run their own business and all they know is theory from the books they've read.

Depends on the business school. Mine would only hire professors who had worked in the real world and been successful. I do think, for the most part though, that college is a waste of time unless you get a degree in the sciences, technology or mathematics. Congrats, regardless, Nixer. Give those profs hell!

Only raise a little hell if they start trying to indoctrinate people. I get along with most of them quite well. I just got this email from my excel Professor: Your gradebook has been updated and the results confirm your hard work has paid off- you have earned an A for the course!
Funny story: Years ago I was doing some work for Eckerd Drugs (sold to CVS) who had hired IBM to do some Y2K upgrades. One day I saw a bunch of consultants had a over 30 pages of paper (dot matrix printing) laid out on the floor. They were using multiple highlighters try to decipher a 37 page nested IF statement:-( So - nested IFs can be a bear to keep straight:-)
Last thing - look for an email late next week explaining next steps to take the MOS Excel Certification exam; I am sure you can well and it is a great thing for your resume'.
Thanks for being a great student! I don't get told that very often.

"How would you fill cell A2 with the text (string) contents of cell A7, and the contents of the cell of every 7th column after A7, appending each to the end of A2, with a comma and space put between the data from each new cell AND not have a ton of commas piled up at the end of A2 if the looked up cells are blank?" Thanks.....now MY brain hurts!

Congrats, Nixer. You're a good role model for my younger generation. And nice email from your Professor: "Eckerd Drugs" and "dot matrix printing", seems like only yesterday. ++++++++++ VF9_Longbow, I read the Excel problem to my wife who is currently "at work" on Excel 365 in our office bedroom (Accountant and user since the early 90's [before is was Lotus 123]). That's above her skill set, at least on first listen. It's the 1st of the month (first day of monthly closing) and she's swamped, don't know if she was really listening...sorry.

Infiltrate... No real business will hire a 72 yr old noob. (by the time I graduate) My local government just might, if they allow naps. My education goal is really just exercising my mind, a good thing at my age. My extra money keeps me in art supplies I couldn't afford otherwise. Kissing full time school goodbye this coming spring, just half time. Most of this school stuff gets me out of the creative mode, I haven't hardly been painting. I have been spending 35-40 hrs a week on schoolwork for the past couple of years. The excel class was tough. I worked in construction cost accounting using excel, over 35 yrs ago. On a Mac no less. I used it a little this past year in a couple of finance classes for the first time since then. I probably should have taken the basic excel course before I took advanced. Not sure why they let me take it. I have to do another annual renewal for my VA/HUD housing thing I get this week. School grants make it complicated, but I will make it very simple, and it would make an MBA proud by the time I am finished with it.
