With the recent interest in older theatres I undertook a three part project.
They old theatres made for EAW 1.2 used 640x480 screens, so I went back to a special 1.29 exe that uses 640x480 screens, fixed up a couple of things and then simplified the multiplayer script loading code. I compiled the "new map" version which is far better for multiplayer games.
I then made a script making program by modifying the previous one that could be used with 1.29.
Finally I made a script loading program, which we never has in 1.29.
I set up the working folder with Ade's China Burma India, Modred's Aces over Europe and the EAW default theatre.

These screenies are from a multiplayer host only flight with the China Burma India theatre

If there is some demand I will release what I have done so far, and add more of these old theatres that are still available.
They only need the "EAW.tm" file to be converted to the "EAW32.tm" format.

I have made a full standalone installation here with a "DirSetPicker" and four theatres:

UAW1.29 with 640x480 screens and multiplayer scripts

The theatres are:
Default ETO
Aces over Europe
China Burma India
North Africa Torch

The theatres in my multiplayer set-up are fine for single players.
In multiplayer games you fly in real time and there is no time acceleration. So to me what makes a good multiplayer theatre is one with several bases and targets close to the front line so that groundstarted missions are possible for both sides..

Hence those are the theatres which I included first included, but I will be adding others.
In some cases such as the Spanish theatre I have simply drawn a new front line. We have both the original and the multiplayer theatres.
In the case of SPAW I moved the carriers into positions which allowed groundstarted carrier battles at GameRanger.

Some of these old theatres have good multiplayer potential. What is a problem with them is that they use the default 1.2 tilemap, and in several cases the targets have not changed positions or qualities. They just have different names. One of the Russian theatres is like this, with the water and coastal tile graphic files replaced with land ones. As there is no water we get ship convoys on land. That is why I "wrote off" old theatres like these as far as 160 was concerned.

My understanding is that 1.29 didn't quite work out as intended with the old theatres and Mr Jelly changed his emphasis to 1.28c for them. I believe the links for the latter are intact.
