Last night I spent a really frustrating time with Hunter trying to fly at GameRanger.
He had a problem, he had the same set-up as me, and I did not have the same problem.
We did not solve it, but now I have the same problem LOL.

The problem occurred when he tried to edit his eaw.ini using the control planel.
If you chose a new key, but it has already been assigned you get a message "Swap keys (Y/N)"
However, "Y" did not work, he had to press "J" for the German "Ja"
His Keyboard setting was 0 which is English, but changing it never allowed him to press "Y" for "YES", it always had to be "J".

I knew that he had Modred's AoE installed, and wondered what happened when he used that. However, it was getting late for me and we did not get chance to try.
This morning, to be certain I downloaded and installed Modred's AoE Gold.
When I tried it, even though the language setting is English, I too had to press "J".
Then when I tried UAW160 2020 I still had to press "J" even though this was in a different folder with a different exe and ini.
I uninstalled AoE but it made no difference.
I switched to Win 7, and again it made no difference

This is a curious issue, but I did not have the problem before I installed AoE.

With my set-up I have a slot into which I plug a HDD with the operating system on it.
There are internal drives with various EAW installations.
I have two Windows 7 and two Windows 10 operating system disks.
No matter which one I use I have to click "J" for yes.

I have fixed the problem by compiling a UAW160 exe with modified language setting code

In the eaw in we have this:

KeyboardLanguage=4

0 is English and uses "Y" for "Yes"
1 is German and uses "J" for "Yes" (Ja)
2 is French and uses "O" for "Yes" (Oui)
3 is Spanish and uses "S" for "Yes" (Si)
4 is Italian and uses "S" for "Yes" (Si)

This applies to exiting the instant mission, single mission or career mission game, and the swapping of keys when editing the "eaw.ini" file in Game Set-up, but only in the new exes.
I will release them after more testing at Gameranger.

Good catch! I was wondering too, why my "Y" button didn't work!

I only read now.
I have known this problem for years, even before assembling AoE.
I always thought it was some modder's mistake, but I knew it was enough to press J to fix it.
I never reported this bug, because I thought it was known.
