I've come back after a year or more to play Battle of Moscow and Battle of Stalingrad. Massive patches were needed and were downloaded successfully.
Here's where things went wrong: 1) After customizing my key mapping and Thrustmaster flight stick, none of the controls worked. So I exited the game and restarted it again.
2) Then I couldn't get into either game because of a message stating updates were required.

What are they talking about?? I just updated a huge patch.! Also, if more patches are needed, where do I find them?? All the links I've been following have expired.
This is frustrating; I want to get airborne!

Any help would be appreciated

My IL-2 GB install is all Steam based and patches are maintained for me. I would assume all patches are otherwise available from the IL-2 site?

The game is patched automatically, both Steam and non steam. I use the il2 launcher and my game is automatically kept up to date

Thanks, the Il 2 site doesn't offer me a place to go for downloads, updates, or patches. Of course, that is their main site. I don't know of any others.
I appreciate your checking in
I hope wherever you are, that you and yours and safe and managing well in this history-making pandemic,

i haven't found automatic patches to be the case. When I use the launcher, I get a message saying that I need to update. Even after it DOES automatically update for me, when I launch it next time, i get the update message again. It won't launch, and there are no further updates. I just keep getting the message.
i have done a fresh install, checked that the cache is there.

Anyway, thank you for your time, and all the best to you and yours in this time of fear, illness, and confusion,
Leslie

Hmmm, I assume the launcher is automatically kept up to date as well.

My launcher checks for updates and installs automatically and once this is completed the word 'Play' appears Weird

Have you rebooted your computer? Some times after an update that is what I need to do, I have the non steam version, and if after a year you are getting a massive update. BTW it may take several reboots to short it out.

Good luck.

I was incorrect about 2 things. First, the updates do occur automatically. I restored the computer to an earlier date, and the latest update successfully downloaded. The game launched, however the key mapping I customized did not work even though the mapping read correctly in the Settings section. Restarted game ; no change. Redid the key mapping ; no change.

Secondly, when I launched the game successfully for a 4th time and hit Enter, the little spinning circle stopped and I received the bothersome message. It read: 'Error #10005 Please update your game: a newer version is available."
Now what? Does this mean there is a newer version I must install (via Steam??) If so, would it mean I uninstall what's on my computer and do a fresh install?

No, I have tried rebooting my computer, but I will do that.

Sorry for any confusion I passed on, and thanks for you input,
Leslie

I assume you are not using Steam,if so then Steam won't be of any help.I have not used the non-Steam version for years so I don't know if there is a 'verify files' function like there is with Steam.

Could it be possible that your anti-virus is interfering with the install/update? Other than that I'm out of ideas, sorry.

That might be an issue. There have been a few that have reported their anti-virus is interfering with the updates. Might want to check the IL2 BOX forums for guidance.

Yes if you can verify your install this would probably address your issue. As far as I know you cannot verify from the Battles launcher but it can be done

Yippee! the game is launching and running, I rebooted it in "safe mode."
A problem still persists. The game still does not recognize my customized key mapping either on the flight stick of the keyboard. That's a puzzle. All drivers are up to date. Flight stick has been recalibrated, and function tests show it is working properly.

Hi Chucky, and thanks. Yes, I am using Steam. I would like to know more about "verify files." I am unfamiliar with this function. I do now have the updates, and yes, i turned off anti-virus function to ensure updates, and in that respect, I am now A-OK.

Much appreciated folks.......I would welcome any thoughts you might have about the key mapping thing. So far, it's a no-go.

Everyone take special care

In the game library, right click on the game, then select properties, then the tab 'local files' and you will see 'verify game files'. It will check the game and if anything is missing or corrupt it will download just what is needed, not the whole thing. Good luck.

I can't really help with the controls situation,I fly with the mouse at the moment. Yeah,I know smile

For controls: re-import the input folder if you have a backup.

I found quite often than after a (major?) update it works best if you backup your old working game files first

Then do a fresh install, and later manually copy missions, campaigns, input and maybe some others like previews, skins, worldobjects eventually.
Thus in to the new game data folders where they should be.

Also: USB errors are something special ... you could use tools like USBdeview to remove old drivers and JoyID to see if the IDs have changed after a windows update.
