I have asked Sandbagger to remove my skin Mods from his page and I assume he will be doing this when he has the time.

Ovs has recently shown me how I can do much better and I am in the process of doing these improvement.

Also, a number of the skins in the MODs will interfer with new skins that are being prepared for the 2020 update.

I am currently working on deleting the earlier posts on these Mods but evidently it's going to take some time as it appears I have to delete my posts individually.

Hi all,
'Jerbear' has created a 'Jasta II' Skin Pack, with some other skins for Jasta 4 and 29 (217 skins total).

The download is available in the 'User Mods Pages' (User skins).

User Skins

The page is dated 12th April 2020. If you don't see that date in the header block of that page, clear your internet cache or refresh the page.

And now for something possible controversial....the Fokker DVIIF skis

This Staffel is initially issued with the Mercedes engine Fokker DVII on 29 May 1918. After 29 June the aces use the BMW powered DVIIF until they are transferred, killed or otherwise put out of action or the war ends.

For most of the aces, skins are only provided for the standard Mercedes DVII model. Dingel, Klein, Dlaudat and Siegesar are the only aces with DVIIF skins.

I notified OvStachel of this problem since these are his skins. He indicated that it would be acceptable to make whatever changes were needed to convert these skins to DVIIFs.

In researching these two aircraft and comparing the skins, I find that there is no difference in the airframes, engine covers or even radiators as there would be if you were skinning an Albatros built DVII or and OAW. The only change needed was the engine itself since the DVIIF is simply one out of every four Fokkers produced (due to availability of the BMW), not a subspecies of the aircraft design.

I could not for the life of me, see what the differences were on the skins that made the engine a BMW. With experimentation, I discovered that it’s not something on the skin, it’s the 3D model that makes this change. Miraculously, I guess.

Below are screenshots of the Jasta 15 engine areas before and after I relabeled them DVIIF. Apparently, the addition of the magical letter “F”to the label is what transformed the aircraft from a Mercedes to a Beamer. So, that’s what I did with most of these DVII WOFF skins. I made a copy and relabeled it as a DVIIF. The only changes, for the most part, were serial numbers and national marking styles.

In these comparison shots the Mercedes is on the left and the BMW is on the right. Again, all I did was relabel these skins to get this result.

If a skin is just relabeled, when you download the MOD you will still have your original DVII skins and will receive a copy of the same skin with a DVIIF label. These will not be as fresh as the originals since they are copies from the MOD, but still pretty fresh.

Some of them have been altered and these are listed here but the DVIIF for the wingman is just a relabeled DVII. I did no changes to the cowlings, radiators or any detail of these. I did no screenshot of these aircraft,

If you’re a stickler for serial numbers and the repetition and just outright wrongness of the serial numbers on some of these change up aircraft is probably going to keep you awake at night.

Comments welcome.

Incredible work by both yourself and Beanie Jerbear,i couldn't even begin to imagine the time spent making these skins and also your detailed explaination of the skins/Jastas..Absolutely brilliant.
And of course thanks to the original OBD skinners who bought this game to life with their work.
Again Thank you very much.

Hallo @jerbear,

great work, WOW!

Short feedback:
You describe your skins, the historical base of them, the reasons for your decisions. Very good!!
So I recognice, that the skins have a different degree of historical authenticity in your mod.
If you ask me, it would be helpful, you separate your mod in folder historical skins, almost historical, 50 : 50 and non-historical skins (only for example) or in percent (100% historical, 75%, 50%, less than 50).

Helpful, because you write, we can delete a skin, if we don't like it.
Because I'm a fan of historical closeness in WOFF I don't delete historical / almost historical skins, even if I like it or not. So these skins of your mod I would use immediately. And only the other skins I would look at before I use them.

More concret:
If you transfer an ace-skin from the last model (AlbDIII) to the new model (AlbDV), then I would say it is 75% ( almost historical) because it is a logical decision, but there is no proof.
If you transfer an Udet-skin (Jasta15) from AlbDIII to the AlbDV, but you give him a white spinner without historical base, then it is 50:50 in my eyes.

These are only examples of an subdivion in relation to a historical criterium.

And of course it is only a tip, an idea!
What do you mean?

Although I haven't downloaded these skins yet, I am following the thread and watching your progress with great interest.

I'll list the completly non-historical last and all together on the thread, but the JGSME file doesn't allow me to separate them from the others in the MOD. Maybe I'll save them up and put them in a MOD by themselves.

You should be able to separate the historical from the non-historical skins within the same mod by placing them in separate folders, e.g. "100% Historical" vs. "50% Historical" and so on. I've done this with my cloud mod. Users would then have the choice which version of the mod they wish to use.

To be more precise, the folders would represent different mods, but you could put them into a single download file.

Hope this helps.

Jerbear,

I want to toss an idea at you in regards to all of these skins that are not named or assigned. Ages ago, I started making fake skins, or skins that were assigned to pilots in the every Jasta just to give the skies more color. I would use as many historic looks designs as possible, based on the other planes in the Jasta. So if every HA in the Jasta was using his initials, or family crest, I would follow suit with the unknown non-HA's in the Jasta. So that every active historical pilot had a skin. Look at the Early Alb D.III's in Jasta 1 for the example. Many of those skins are fake.

Whoa!!! What!! Lol... yes... it's true. But done with taste and respect to the look of the era, it really looks awesome.

I'd like to see this happen with your skin packs as well, so that every one of them, or as many as possible fly in the game and are not just player selective. The Blue Bavarian set are a very good example of what I am talking about.

As long as you make these all packs that we can load and unload... really... I think it would be a lot of fun to see so many more active skins in the game on both sides.

Talk to Shred and see where he can help. I would, but I don't have access to the latest datafiles that would show the active pilots.

Just a thought. I hate to see your fine artwork not used in the game.... it's a game... no harm in adding a little imagination to it... again.. in good taste and equivalent. to what should and could have actually been

Best,

James
