This may be old news for the experts but I just stumbled on this French site:

http://albindenis.free.fr/Site_escadrille/Terrains_identification.htm

Not only many aerial photos of airfields but links to the escadrilles stationed there, as well as some operational histories.

Attached below is Chipilly, my current home in the Deep Immersion DID campaign. Version in game has more trees but is otherwise pretty similar.

Must dash. I'm off to PM RAFLouvert just in case he has seen this yet ahoy

EPower, I have referenced that outstanding collection many times over the years. But thanks for thinking of me. salute

And thanks for sharing the link here for those who are unaware of it. It should be in everyone's bookmarks.

Cheers!

Lou

Thanks epower, i've already got that site on my homepage. It's superb, have a look at the 'dossiers' page, it even has menus from some of the escadrille's mess facilities with what's on offer on that particular day! reading cheers

Thanks

Albie

"A great deal of an aeroplane could be holed without affecting its ability to fly. Wings and fuselage could be—and often were—pierced in 50 places, missing the occupants by inches (blissfully unaware of how close it had come until they returned to base). Then the sailmaker would carefully cover each hole with a square inch of Irish linen frayed at the edges and with a brushful of dope make our aircraft 'serviceable' again within an hour."

Haha, reminds me of the story from WW1 about the French unit, fighting in 1914. They were actually fighting around the vineyard owned by the officer in charge of the unit. It was clear they were going to lose that particular battle.....so the officer salvaged what wine they could carry.....and downed the rest..... bottles

The menus are amazing, they didn't go hungry that's for sure.

The Atlantic photos WW1

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
