Some of us have no problem with multi-page neighborhood Home Owners Association rules because the restrictions (i.e. submitting house colors before repainting, maintaining yard, all fencing to be on back side of house, cars to be parked in garage) beautify the entire neighborhood. Ours in Jax, FL were very strict and strictly enforced and it showed!

Now I live in the rurals with no restrictions, but I didn't mind them at the time because IMO they benefited everyone (our house sold within 2 weeks of putting on market...in 2009, during the bubble crash)!

I love freedom, but I also love law and order when necessary.

I think the valid concern here is that once a national, state or local government gets a taste of increased powers due to an emergency, it will be reluctant to give them up after the crisis has subsided. Just look at what has happened since 9/11 and the subsequent Homeland Security legislation. I'll leave it at that. smile

Homeland Security has been a success and we need something like that (or even more strict) to combat this virus.

This is a legitimate concern.

But a permanent, lasting disease in our population that kills as many or more than the current leading cause of death--Heart Disease, is an equally legitimate concern.

Doing nothing, though, is not an option:

If you believe the Japanese health agency, I've got a bridge to sell you...

Japan was claiming infections per day of nearly zero until the day after the cancellation / postponement of the Olympics. Even yesterday, they were claiming something like 100 infections per day in Tokyo. Now they're suddenly saying over 1,000 per day.

The reality of COVID infection rates is worse than any east Asian nations are stating - but I would trust the Korean figures more than Japan's as they instituted a very thorough drive-through testing program early on, and have been far more transparent about the whole thing than Japan - a country with a lot to lose by revealing the true numbers.

Anyone who hasn't seen the movie Contagion ought to watch it - very many of the things in that movie have come to pass with this pandemic, though at a much smaller scale. It is a fiction of course, but there is much truth contained.

Oh I love that movie!

Although I used that movie to base my assumptions to how the WHO works in pandemic times..... Little did I know it was just a useless shell to appease countries politically.

They've revised the model for total deaths, now down to 60,000 in US.

Further, Dr. Birx confirmed what I had suggested previously, that they are recording a death as a covid death even when other diseases or conditions may have caused it. Heart attack and covid? Covid death.

Combine that with the fact that less ventilators are needed than previously estimated....

2 + 2 isn't adding to 4.

ps. Jobless claims 17 million now. 1/3 haven't paid rent/mortgage in April.

We are headed for the worst mortgage default in history. This was in part the reason for the 2008 crash, but this is much much worse. And we are voluntarily doing it to ourselves.

Back to work and deal with the consequences.

Your post is misleading. That article is an interview regarding a COVID model that assumes social distancing is in place until August. That doesn't mean that will be what we are asked to do. And, on top of that, the article itself mentions that social distancing can be replaced with faster testing and contact tracing.

Evidence indicates Covid-19 slams your immune system, HIV properties.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41...Ti6iOtpSDFd8RpqMc6l4hHooP9tDKyiSjP9MaHJw

Essentialy this means folks with weakened immune systems via drugs or by health, will be very susceptible. Makes it very easy to pick up other infections while dealing with covid, and during recovery.

The good news, unlike HIV, this is temporary, but takes time as your body rebuilds it's immune system..

So it goes without saying, bolster your immune system as best you can. Vitamins, zinc, etc.. stop doing things that hurt your immunity.

The study has weak data, but seems to support this conclusion.

Also on an encouraging note:

Jacob Glanville (of Netflix 'Pandemic' fame) says he has developed an antibody for the virus. It is currently being tested by the US Military. He says it works, and lasts 8-10 weeks, can be given before and after getting infected. Starts to work in 20 minutes. Administered via IV.

Should be ready by August for mainstream distribution. Any sooner would take an unprecedented act by the federal gov.

So over the last couple of days, I'm reading news that Covid-19 antibody tests are arriving, or will shortly, in some places. Apparently not all (any?) are FDA approved, and looks like the UK got a large number of bad kits. so problems are possible with them for sure.

But I've not read anything about whether there will be any reporting or tracking based on these test results. Maybe I'm wrong, but it would seem this would be key data in terms of getting back to normal, both for local areas and nationally. If the data I've seen lately is correct (New York possibly seeing Covid-19 spread since January, 20% or more infected show little or no symptoms), then a significant portion of the population could well be past the primary risk, so far as we know.

Has anyone heard whether there will be some data collection/tracking/reporting on antibody test results, once the tests are widely available?

I was at super market and they were maybe 30 customers total and only 6 of them had their face covered. 2 guys and a woman shopping together and she was the only one with a mask. None of the register clerks or deli counter or meat counter staff had their face covered.

One customer was at the courtesy counter where you pay bills or buy money orders and the employee helping him and he was standing from each other the distance of the width of the counter which is maybe 3-4 feet. He was handing her a lot of money and she was taking the money. Both were not wearing gloves.

Similar to vaccine records for kids.

I really really hate to bring this up, but when we get hit with a serious viral threat, the government will require everyone to be vaccinated.

If you choose not to vaccinate, for whatever reason, you won't be allowed to buy, sell, or engage in commerce without the digital tattoo on your hand or forehead.

Of course it will only be visible to specialized scanners.

Sounds very familiar like I've read that somewhere... Long ago..
