Maybe I will. Like I said we have the game in our house. When I was younger I was a hunter. I grew up around firearms, my dad was an avid hunter and it was something we did together. Mostly small game, upland bird and deer. He passed away when I was a teenager, and with it my love of hunting died too. I decided I no longer wanted to kill these beautiful animals, and haven't done so since. I still have all of the weapons, quite a list too.
While I decided to stop, I missed everything else that went along with it. The 'woodsmanship', stalking, tracking, reading signs. Shooting trap, zeroing scopes on the firing range. I even learned to hand load my ammunition. Just being in the forest or on the mountain was wonderful. I actually thought about doing some wildlife photography, as I reasoned it would be just like hunting, but the shot was non-lethal. But I never did it.
Yeah, maybe this game would be a good substitute for this? I did the tutorial with my son, but we struggled with the tracking and finally gave up. Maybe if I could get past that in to the game proper it would be fun. But at the moment I am hunting ships in the North Atlantic, and doing the same in space with Elite. Maybe Chucky's AAR will be the thing that puts me over the top
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

I fully understand what you mean Bond. For one, Iam going through my moms death three weeks ago due to the virus. I say this because I cannot think of shooting anything which has to do with human life, be it pixel or cardboard, it may sound silly but that´s how I feel. Same thing happend to me two years ago when my dad passed away.
On the other hand, I have always been a nature guy, I just love nature and have done all the hight´s summits here in the north of Spain, and have done alot of solo hiking too. With that said you could understand that I don´t like killing animals either. Sure I had a BB gun when I was young, but things change as one grows up.
I´ve had COTW on my radar for quite some time, but again killing animals is not my thing. But recently I though to my self, hey there not real, and needed something to keep my mind out of reality. While I do feel bad at times shooting a bear I have stalked for half an hour, I do get over it. This game is helping me get over things, and I think it´s a beautiful game, especially for solo play, although there´s MP and folks seem to have fun with that too. I just can´t take the BS that MP has sometimes in my state, so I ignore that aspect of the game for now.
You like stealth games, so I really think you will like this.
If you do so, make sure to add your 2 first skill points to stalking, the second point will let you see tracks further then usual (IIRC) which is a good thing.

Nice post mate, and I'm sorry for your loss. I know that games can give you an escape and can help you deal with the loss.
Shooting virtual animals I have no problem with, but I can understand how you feel. One of you guys should do an AAR about one of your trips in to the woods.
Thanks for the tip. Yeah, I reckon I'd like it once I was in free-roam or whatever it might be called. Stalking's what I do right?

Well I don't know if it's humane or not but my first black bear succumbed to both barrels of my shotgun. 19% and 100%. I assume that the percentage means the higher the % the deadlier the shot? He shook off the first shot but went down right in front of me from the second. This was at night with my torch on. Scary stuff.
EV's are the Devils matchbox.

100% is the integrity of the shot.
Head torch dosent scare them away, as in real life. If you don´t turn your torch on at night, you wont see the track either.

I spent a few years up in AK awhile back, during the summer ( June and July ) my wife and I used to get blueberries from a patch 100 miles from the Arctic Circle. I carried a 357 revolver for protection. It was there that I saw my 1st Bear albeit at a great distance looking down into a valley. The only thing that I could think was better get a bigger Gun. P.S. I never went back to that Barrie patch or wanted any more Blueberries.

LOL I can Imagen, I would think like wise I do Bushcraft in my area, but no bears around, just wild hogs that do scare the crap out of me at times when not expected!
Nevertheless, The Hunter is a fun and relaxing game, a bear can still scare you though, or other wildlife in the game.

I know it's a great time to buy,I have about half a dozen CoW items in my wishlist but I've moved on to other stuff. I might pick up another weapons pack. I have the Smoking Barrels DLC that included that awesome .50 musket thingy. I'm pretty sure that nearly everything I've hit with it has just dropped

I think all four weapon packs are great, and the High-Tech Hunting pack too, but if I was to buy just one, it would be the weapons pack 3 with it´s Eckers .30-06, and the Vasquez Cyclone .45. Next would be the weapons pack 2, with it´s Solokhin MN1819, and the three barrel Grelck Drilling. Not much into handguns yet.
My kit is usually the Eckers .30-06 (weapon pack 3), the Virant .22 (weapon pack 1) for small game, and a bow, forgot which one.
I have about +50hrs. of gameplay and I still have half of one of the default maps to uncover! It´s well worth the asking price, even more, I would go for the 2019 edition with all the extra content it comes with if I was a first time buyer.
