Does anyone on here have any first hand knowledge of anyone having the virus, know someone who knows someone?

I've been seeing concerns based on some peoples belief that much of this is being manufactured and that nobody knows anybody who has this virus. Well I had my question answered, here and through social media. Watching the numbers rise by 1000+ a day here in Florida has made me aware that someone I might know could or at least by percentages should know someone who has it, I've been inside for 2 weeks. I guess I'm just seeking some justification for my being stuck here.

Current known rate of infection in the US is 851 cases per million of population. Less than one in a thousand. Still rare, but still deadly.

family friends have passed on directly from Covid-19 and one that is incidental due to delays in treatment while waiting for test results coming back.

My sister in law works in the Covid isolation section of the local hospital Maria Ziekenhuis, and her daughter, my niece, is head of pharmacy in research hospital St. Jessa in Hasselt, both have first hand knowledge of patients with Covid-19.

There are about 2500+ intensive care beds in Belgium just now, and 1235 patients in intensive care with the virus (was just mentioned on the news now), and a little over 2000 in isolation in hospital with the virus.

This is an article about what is happening in St.Jessa from yesterday, have a read, google translate does an ok job on it, then ask yourself why you are self isolating.

St. Jessa Zeikenhuis, Hasselt

I'm being completely serious not looking for a conspiracy just a general consensus from what here is an International audience, yes?

Two cases in a business contact. Things there had apparently be handled a bit "loose"... and now they are tightening down.

I have taken care of two critically ill COVID19 patients on my ICU. At least three of our nurses have come down sick with it.

My friend's uncle (who I know) died last week from it. Her Aunt is still sick but out of ICU now.

Yes, it is real.

From NYC, updated deaths.

People with underlying conditions need to self quarantine. It's time for the rest of the country to get back to work.

Yeah, no, suck it up and deal with it. Everyone should have their butts inside their homes. No whining. Do it for your country.

Bottom line ?

It’s real.

It’s killing people ....

Seeing your nurse wife kitted out in a virtual hazmat suit to look after a sick patient who is covid positive is very sobering and extremely scary.

My guess is that the published data is conservative.

I hope people are not getting a little too blasé about the figures showing 500 deaths one day, 750 the next on the news which quickly becomes almost normal.

It’s easy to forget that every one is a devastated family.

Sorry, don’t mean to preach- feeling a bit emotional.

47,000 people died today from heart disease.

And according to my NYC stats I posted above, no not everyone is dying to covid. But if you have the underlying conditions of heart disease, and you die after getting covid, guess what, it's considered a covid death... So there's that oddity in the death statistics.

Perspective is important.

Yeah, but you can't catch heart disease by someone breathing on you. I haven't had even flu-like symptoms in years and I'd rather not experience them now.
