Looking this over and can't tell if it's single player or MP I am thinking of giving the early access set a test run

Single and Multiplayer.

Seems MP is available via Steam friends list (request). Not sure if that will be the only way to set up MP matches.

Yes, I know about the starter kit PDF as PnP (Print and Play). I have a couple in PnP that I have made out. Lock n Load calls them Battles on Demand, I have the No Honor in Surrender.
LnL Battles on Demand PnP

I have both games from the TSS (Tactical Studies Series) from HPS, Point of Attack 2 and Tigers Unleashed, both from Scott Hamiliton. Can´t say Iam to happy with the whole experiences with Mr. Hamilton and his games, so I´ll reserve my thoughts on HPS.

I haven´t played any of the LnL Tactical series, except from the Matrix LnL Heroes of Stalingrad PC, which IIRC had minor issues. The game is no longer supported, David Heath did run Matrix at that time, but then left or was kicked out of Matrix. He then went to Lock n Load Publishing were he is the CEO now, I think. I guess he did have to do with the agreement with Mark Walker, so when he wasent with Matrix/Slitherine, support for the game was dropped.

I do have from LnL Nations at War´s White Star Rising and World at War´s Storming The Gap (kickstart kit) which I received last month, both boardgames. They do share some aspects to the LnL Tactical series, but with more depth and chrome. Skimped through Storming The Gap but not to focused on anything latley, but I can say it has more depth then the Tactical Series.

Iam glad LnL are getting into more PC ports. Iam not to happy with Matrix/Slitherine so it´s nice to see someone else in the ball park.

I´ll have a closer look today, might buy or not will see...

I'm happy with LnL so far Red..sure it has it's weird way but they seem to be patching thing fairly rapidly..i gave up on CC The Bloody 1st ..Only thing that bugs me about LnL is placement of the information windows they tend to block the map screen too much..Like the scale and not a click fest like Tigers on the Hunt.or the Squad Battles games .And the tutorials are useless but you can grab the manual for the original board game and like any new game take your time

You can move the info windows to were ever you want, from what I have seen on a recent video. Manual is on the main menu window as a PDF, which pops up on it´s own window. It´s the v5.0 core rules. From what I know, the only difference from the board game is that the LOS is not blocked by the stucture it´s self, but by the whole hex the structure is in. So point to point through a hex with a structure in it will be obstructed by the whole hex. In the boardgame, if you had a clear LOS from point to point (center hex point), a structure in the way of the LOS would not effect the LOS.

I bought the core game, will see how it goes and if I like it, then I´ll buy a module or two smile2

Yeah Red got the manual and wrote down all the hot keys,,just takes time to find your way,,It's a great idea to put out the core like they did in CO 2 and let you get a taste for the gameplay

Agreed thumbsup

I just played the first scenario, and on the second try, I beat the OPFOR without having to read the rules yet, but do admit there were times that I didn´t know what was going on, so yes it´s a good Idea to slowly read the core rules so one knows what all the roll results mean, among other things.

On the windows there are a minus and plus signs on the top right of the windows. Click the minus sign to reduce the window, click more to reduce more, but there´s a limit to how much you can reduce the window size. You can drag the window and reposition it as you like too.

Initial thoughts are good. Clean UI and smooth play, I say it´s alot better then the Matrix version for sure. Quite intuitive (as I could play without getting into the rules) for those that are used to playing wargames, and very recomended (due to this) for those who never played a wargame before. Can´t say much for the AI as I need more time with it, but as with any AI, I bet it can always be improved biggrin

It dosen´t do a bad job, but Iam sure it can make bad decisions at a given point/turn as in any other game.

Scenarios seem small, which is a good thing at first, so game time could be in the 20-30min. range or less. This is the core game, it could be that the modules have larger scenarios, but in general it´s based at tactical squad level, so player counter count is small, again a good thing as you wont be moving a truck load of counters in one impluse.

Edit: Some scenarios can go for an hour long.

With the core game, of which you can get a taste of the LnL Tactical Series as you said, one can also decide if he/she should buy the boardgame version without having to dish out $60 for any of the modules. It´s also good at keeping the cats away from your counter set up when your not around winkngrin
