Sooo--I finished the first game and started a second playthrough, but then I decided to look at the 2nd and 3rd games of the trilogy. The sequel from 2015-- Rise of Tomb Raider was only $9.89 and included all of its add ons, so I popped for it. At the time the 3rd game from 2018--Shadow of The Tomb Raider was priced at like $18. I didn't buy it since I figured I would see if I grew tired of the gameplay after the second game. I thought the 2nd game equal if not better than the first. The graphics were much improved and it felt more open world and less linear than the 1st game. It also spanned some more diverse settings from the deserts of Syria to the icy mountains in Siberia. The first game is all set on a semi-tropical Island.
Anyway, I finished the second game last night and enjoyed it enough that I decided to pop the $18 for the last. I go to Steam to see that now the only available PC version of the game is called "Shadow of The Tomb Raider--the definitive version" for $59.39. It's a bundle with stuff that mostly got mixed reviews--maybe a short mission, but then some junk like extra outfits for Lara--none of them baring any extra skin at all.
I'm guessing that Square Enix noticed the uptick in sales of their subsequent Tomb Raider games after making the 1st game free and simply eliminated the offer for the 3rd base game at $18 in favor of a more profitable $60 bundle with no new production costs on their part. It just goes to show that as the old saying goes: "There is no free lunch". Oh, well, I simply put the 3rd game on my wish list and will get it when the demand and price drop back down in some future sale.
Cheers
