Beautiful game and relaxing walking sim too. Play loop is fun aswell.
Got 13hrs. in since I bought it two days ago. Bought some DLC´s too, and also Installed The Hunter: Classic, although this one is more grindy and a bit P2W, but you can do same without real cash, just grind more!
Very relaxing which is what I need right now.
Anyone playing these?

I did dabble with COTW and enjoyed it far more than I thought.
I wasn't particularly good at the hunting so for me it was more of a walking simulator with beautiful surroundings.

It definitely has a learning curve, but I rather have it that way to be honest. Hunting is not easy, so it makes sense that one has to learn as he/she goes along. If the game was easy, it would not be a hunting game.
Make sure you spot needing, feeding and resting zones. Also pressure zones (violet color) is added by killing more then 4 animals in the same zone, that will scare them away for sure. Pressure zones rotate in time, so jump (fast travel from cabin) from one zone to another. Hunting at feeding/drinking zones from 5:00 to 9:00am for whitetails is a good option for example. Check your range, until you unlock zero-in, your rifle will be set to 150m, from there expect bullet drop.
This guy has some good videos on the topic...

I picked this up in the sale and have put too many hours in since then.
It's very relaxing and I find I get much more out of the game just sneaking around quiet as possible. Even on my old system I have settings at max and it really does look gorgeous.
Relaxing you say Vitesse? There I was carrying out the mission to investigate the trashed camp when I heard a bear. I'm gonna shoot that bear dead and have him stuffed.
Oh there he is in that bush. Now it's charging me. Raises rifle, picks point on head which by now practically fills the scope and....click. Rifle's not loaded. Ha ha,he got me,I reload and fire. It's a miss but he's had enough and scarpered back to Mrs Bear.
I assume that damage isn't modelled,as although the screen went red I seemed to have suffered no injuries. That's the first time anything has gone for me. Nature be scary.

Damage is modelled, you have a yellow bar with a plus sign on the left on your hud that depletes as you take damage. That´s why you can also buy first-aid kits in store, to restore you´re health.
I got ambushed by a Moose while I was tracking him/her, all of a sudden he charged at me out of a bush! Same, screen went red and then I notice the green bar was half depleted.
Maybe you didn´t take enough damage for you to notice Chucky. Wolfs will also gang up on you and attack you, so be aware of them too. Handguns works great for that.
Great solo game really, once you get the hang of it.

I don't play this game, although I bought it for my son on XBox. I have a .243 and it's my favorite rifle. Nice, flat trajectory. It's a good deer cartridge, but I wouldn't hunt bear with it. Not sure how that translates in the game. .243 is a varmint or medium sized game round in my view.
For bear I'd want at least a .30-.30, .30-06, .308 or .338. Bigger is better with bear I reckon. A .270 is a smaller caliber but packs a heavy punch. That should work well too.

Did some pretty good hunting today.
Made 11k, leveled up to 9, got my first gold, and bought the Hyperion scope, I also unlocked both zero-in perks, and restocked on ammo. My first day with the M1 Garand which has a killer punch that drops most game down in one well placed shot, but has a bit to much recoil for my liking, it also scares the crap out of me each time I fire it, darn thing got a BANG!
I´ll save it for bigger game. Went back to the Eckers .30-06 (with the Polymer tip ammo) which I really like.

Ooops, I replied to a post that was deleted it appears. Never mind....
Sorry I deleted it to re-write it but got sidetracked.
You have agreed what I thought though. The rabbit I shot with the .243 dropped on the spot. A deer I shot yesterday, and I thought it was a well placed shot ran off and although I found a blood spot failed to find a trail. I know it's not real but I really wanted to find it.

I have also lost some tracks, and yes it does bother one a bit when that happens. Iam using the Virant .22LR for wabits. I find them alot better at night.

I find that the more one plays this game, the better one gets. For example, since night hunting can be a bit of a challenge in this game (as a nob), and the only way to advance time is to rest in a lodge, which in turn cost money, then in order to do something with that time, I spend that time unlocking outpost, lookouts and mostely finding need zones, along with feeding and drinking zones. While I do that, I always find something to hunt on the way, so overall it´s well time applied to hunting, being it day or night.
Now that some of those zones are reveled by my previous work, I can now dedicate my time to travel to those zones, and once there either stalk, or wait for my pray to show up. You do have to watch what are the good times of those zones (mouse over them). This tactic helped me alot yesterday, in return had a good hunting day/night yesterday, well almost...
While I was waiting for game to show up in one of the zones, I spotted a black bear, I was still, hidden in the brush and had my bow out, as that dosent alarm any neraby animals. The bear didn´t notice me, or at least that´s what I thought, he was then walking head on towards me and I was hesitating to shot him in the cheast with a medium grain arrow, he was then about 15mt. from me, while I was hesitating, he then spotted me and decided to rush at me, thus red screen! He left me with half my health bar depleted, and aside from that scaring the #%&*$# out of me! So decision are somtimes crucial in this game, which makes it all the better. I don´t think a cheast shot would have avoided the head-on rush to be honest.
