Hello all

I have a complete original copy of Longbow 2 installed on a Pentium III 450 with a 16meg Voodoo 3 AGP, SB Live & 384Mb RAM running Win98 se.
I had LB2 running flawlessly previously but have had to reinstall the OS due to nusb36.exe corrupting something & causing random system crashes.

That's all sorted now & I have the OS running fine, LB2 re-installed using disk images, patched successfully & 2muchmem limiting the RAM to 366Mb.
However, clicking the LB2.exe allows a momentary black screen & then an immediate CTD. I seem to recall having this problem on the original install, but Flyboy's site was still up & running then & I think I found something on there that sorted it out.
Unfortunately, whilst some of that is still visible via Way Back Machine, most of the page links aren't. I've looked at +G's pages (which ARE all there) but it's more geared to WinXP onwards.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious but can't think what...

I appreciate that with a 20-plus year old OS, it's going to be a big ask, but any ideas/advice gratefully accepted.

Gordy

Hi GordyC,

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with LB2 again. All this stuff feels like forever ago and I can't recall solutions from memory like I used to. I just had a quick look at my site that's archived on my computer but I really don't know where to start with finding a solution. If you want I could send you some of the pages from my site that relate to the installation and fixes, etc.

If that would be of interest then please send me your e-mail address in a private message.

Regards,
Gary 'Flyboy' Wright

Thanks Gary, that's a generous offer!

I decided last night, that this was either a memory or a graphics issue. As 2muchmem was active, I focused on the graphics side, trawled the net for the newest official 3dfx drivers I could find & installed them... & it worked!

That's good news! I only ran a true 3DFX Voodoo setup natively for a short time years ago. I've mostly used emulation so I don't run into driver issues, therefore that's something that I wouldn't have even thought of suggesting.

I recently resurrected an old box in my house, a Pentium III-900 with a Voodoo 5 5500 AGP, just to run LB2 "stock" (even using the CD to play).

It was quite a process, but not too much to discourage me. I bought a shrink-wrap Windows 98 SE off eBay, and I found a great site that all the latest patches and tweaks for Win98.http://retro.remotecpu.com/win98.php

It took some searching to find the best Voodoo 5 drivers, don't have that link but it can be found.

And of course LB2 runs perfectly on it.

Hi! Sorry to recall this old thread with old problems.
I can't find the 2 Much Mem application. Webarchive didn't help me. Could you share it, if you still have it?

Hi Hiuuz3,

That program can be found at the top of the following page on my LB2 site... along with all the other programs we've used over the years.
