You can absolutely run steam offline, it's a legit option in settings. A far cry from other services like Origin in which most of the games require a constant internet connection.

Eh, Origin is weird. I have a few games that, even on Steam, require an Origin account to run. Thing is, my old Origin account is associated with an email account I no longer have access to, so when I try to register it, boom it goes to that account and is lost. Origin is not for me.

Steam sucks. Installed it and uninstalled it. Tried to get the 2 free Tombraider games and 1. it only lets you install one at a time and 2. it has to download the complete game before it installs it 3. which one is 2.4 GB and one is 9.some GB and 4. the download is very slow, the 9GB will take all night at 1 MB at a time and NO I DON't HAVE ANY DOWNLOADS GOING, and 5. you need to be log into your steam account on the browwer and have the installed program running at the same time to be able to install the game which tells me the same applies when you want to play the game, you don't know what the website and the program are doing in the background, spying on you, looking through your computer, tracking and logging your every key stroke and so on.
Don't need those games so bad. Free or no free. Considering how many millions of people worldwide sign up on Steam to buy games through them, they need to make their system more user friendly and provide faster servers. Everyone has to wait all night to download and install a game? After 1 hour on the 9 GB one, it only downloaded 44 MB with over 9 GB left to get and that's not including installation. That's just the download of the installation set up program. On the bottom of the window there is a progress bar that reads 0 of 3 installed. Those still need to be done after you have downloaded 9+ GB for one game and 2.4 GB for another game. PLUS why 0 of 3? Why 3? I was only installing 2 games and in my profile purchase history, it's only showing 2 games. What is the 3rd one?

That makes no sense NFB. None of it does.
1 -That is true it will only install one game at a time but it will let you play the first one once it's installed. Downloads are automatically paused if you play a game, this can be overridden.
2 - How can it install the game unless it has all the download? Or are you saying that it has to install both before you can play the first? That is false, see 1.
3 - Not sure what that means,in English please.
4 - No idea,I always get max download speed. Maybe an error on your part?
5 - Just disconnect yourself from the internet and go live in a shack in the wilds.
Are you sure that it is 3 games in the queue? That download list will show possibly 2 games plus the needed files for Steam to run them,i.e runtimes.
All the info you need is in the 'download' section (click on download at bottom of screen) as to what is being downloaded but I guess that is now moot, you uninstalled it.

Yeah, that’s a basic misunderstanding of the whole process.

I was only installing 2 games and in my profile purchase history, it's only showing 2 games. What is the 3rd one? 1) I think it can only download one at a time, but there may be a setting to allow multiple to download at once. 2) And yes it has to download the whole game to install it, how will you install something without all of the files? What happens if you yank a DVD out of the drive before it finishes installing? It stops installing. Have you never installed software before? 3) You can check the system requirements page where you got the game, it clearly tells you. 4) Your internet is slow. I can get 50 megabytes a second from all major services. Downloads are limited by your ISP / service. Tomb Raider takes a few minutes to install at 9GB. 5) Most games will require Steam to run like all clients. Some games have no DRM though, so you can run them without Steam running. Don't expect cloud saves or anything else to work when not using Steam though. 6) Steam doesn't spy on you, Valve is a well respected company, one of the biggest in the industry. They're not a nobody Chinese company that popped up out of nowhere. If you're that paranoid you need to ditch iOS, Android and Windows. They use much more of your information for various purposes than Valve/EA/Epic. This isn't tongue in cheek, this is the truth. Stop using Google and Gmail as well if you use those services. 7) Steam is about as user friendly as it can get, and as mentioned Valve can't make your internet less crappy.

Both Mass Effect Andromeda and Jedi Knight Fallen Order will kick you out of the game if the internet connection gets interrupted for any reason. This happened to me on a couple of occasions while playing these games.

I live in Germany, my internet is only DSL and about 100 times slower than what I had in the US. Even then, I can download games from Steam, Epic, or Ubisoft in about 1 to 2 hours. Unless NoflyBoy is using dial up or satellite internet, I doubt it should take that long to download. Also, I could be wrong, but I swear Steam will allow you to download multiple games at once, not one at time like he is stating. But, maybe that is just with updates, I can't remember. I usually only download one game or update at a time to save internet speed.

The only thing I would say about that is that when I see the download progress, it tells me something like "Downloading 2 of 6" or something like that.

I just tried to download 2 games at once and it doesn't want to,it keeps pausing the other one. Unless there is something I'm missing it looks like one at a time.
Not a problem here,I have fast fibre,downloads come down at 9 MB/s+.

There is a setting that can limit your download speed so that steam doesn’t hog your bandwidth. Double check that, it may be set too low. If you don’t have much bandwidth, like DSL usually is and many cable packages, you should watch and tweak it. If on fiber, set it to “no limit”.

Funnily enough I checked that setting yesterday for the first time because I was downloading a Steam game and it was hogging all the bandwidth and making Twitch TV unwatchable. I set it to 5 MB/s and then when it had finished set it back to 'no limit'.

If I have a major update or a big game to download I just start it before I go to bed.

Set your update time to 3am with no limit and you’ll hardly ever notice another game patch. Windows updates at 2, being more important, then steam gets its time in. Makes more sense to leave pc’s up and online overnight these days or you’ll always be getting updates while you’re trying to use it..

Nah, just plug it in and play with the keyboard/mouse then when you get to that particular section hit the quicktime events and then never use the controller again. You can still use keyboard/mouse with a controller plugged in. The game will contextually switch the interface mid game to whichever you used last. You were right. Of course, the PS3 controller is labeled a bit differently than an Xbox version having geometric symbols instead of letters for the action buttons, but they basically work the same. Anyway, it only took me 3 tries to get through it with the controller. I got so excited to get through it that I jumped up with the USB cord I was using to connect the controller to the PC wrapped around my ankle. That jerked the controller out of my hands and across the room. Fortunately, it still seems to work with nothing else damaged. One side effect of using the old PS3 controller wired to my PC is that it still wirelessly connects to my PS3 console and keeps turning it on, which also turns on the TV I have it hooked up to. The simple solution is to unplug my console. I really only use it to play Blurays nowadays anyway. Thanks a bunch. Cheers
