Chaps,

Fittop,

Rog would respond if he were able. I must admit, too, that no reply is worrying.

The Severn Valley is particularly vulnerable to flooding which is still very much the case this week. Nice to live there but at times like these there can be a heavy price to pay.

Gents,

I hope everyone is well but am worried about Rog not responding.

Excellent with the forward bookings Dux, you'll be outplaying the reformed Genesis in a jiffy! Perhaps you can get them to sign up as warm up band to come on before your act?

I'm trying out the roads on my bike and have been on two medium length rides this week but still find the weather rather cold and the form disappointing. Water everywhere in the low lying fields.

In other news I'm experimenting with and old cell phone doing retirement service as an improvised dash cam so when the weather gets nicer and the trees and hedges get green I might take y'all on a trip down some of the country lanes around here. Be very afraid!

Y'all,

I have been remiss in posting here, but was hoping for good news before doing so.
This morning I did get a text message from Roger, so he is still among us.

Although the news is not all great, he is in good spirits and we had a long conversation afterwards.

He did want to say Hello and thanks to all for your support.

I will share all about it in a few minutes as soon as I take care of a couple of things and will then edit this post.

Edit:

First Roger apologized for taking so long to respond. Then stated that he has liver cancer and that his hopes of a long life as his grandma will probably not materialize. (His words. She lived into her nineties.)

He has waited since before Christmas for an appointment at Duke with a top tier transplant doctor.
Due to the pandemic lockdown the appointment ( it was for tomorrow) has been canceled as his facility is affected.

As here and almost everywhere today, no one is allowed in or out of his facility unless they are on official business.

The drugs are unaffordable and/or unavailable.

His words: "...So smile along with me as I face death as I smile back. I am in very good spirits."

Before you and I get down, he did seem in good spirits and we talked about family and past events.

He did stress a couple of times his appreciation and thanks for the good thoughts and sentiments from you good folks here at the forum.

Roger stated he has no idea how long he has, but seems to have met his demons now.

He asked me to pass on his news, and will be sharing his phone number in private messages as he requested.

He can receive calls and has not been able to get on the forum or read too well as he does think he needs new glasses.
I had previously asked if he could get a laptop in and about its security.

Thanks Fittop,

Greatly saddened by that news and thank you for conveying it.. frown As you would have already discovered if you read the earliest posts on this thread, Rog and I have contributed continuously over the years.

I have just noticed my private messenger flashing so I'll take a look now.

Chaps,

Fittop,

Thanks again for the number. I will try to get through ASAP taking into account the time zone difference of course. We have never actually spoken before although I received a recorded message about 15 years ago. Very mixed feelings right now.

Y'all,

Yep, very mixed feeling were also my first words to him today.
We talked about your musical prowess. He wished you much success.

I am aware of the first pages on this forum.
Thanks again for your many contributions as I see this is not the only thread where you and McGonigle have contributed.

Thank you for the update Fittop.

Although I felt something was amiss, I'm very saddened by the latest development.

Gentlemenses,

Well, this is a sad time and that is sad news. I hope he pulls through despite the odds.

Reminds us all of how short and fragile the gift of life is. I was disheartened by some of my issues, but now I am reconsidering that I am actually doing pretty well in very bad times.

May God bless us all.

Y'all

Hello all.
Oldgrognard, thought I had read you had a setback, but will blame old age on forgetting the particulars.
Hope it does not stop your flying.
While waiting for McGonigle's video of his scenery and the MS 2020 Flight Simulator version, I am still perusing the used airplane for sale pages. But I would like an air-conditioned crate in this climate.
But first I need to go see if I can get my lapsed medical back and catch up on the latest reg changes.
I may be getting too old for it though.

Chaps,

Fittop,

I have tried that number with various code combinations but no luck yet. Will keep trying.

Y'all,

I will check for the country code. Perhaps it is different in the UK? Will check.

OldDux; try throwing away one of the two “1”s. I think there should probably be only one “1” in the number.

Gents (and everyone who might pop in here) ,

I've just been on the blower with Roger, we had a long conversation and he sends all his best wishes to you all. I fear I might have tired him out a bit but it was a joy to actually speak with our friend and I got the impression that he was very happy to receive my call.. He expresses his hopes that he might be able to perhaps join us again at some time but he is without a laptop at the moment and the place where he is is in lock down due to that pesky virus which disrupts all our daily routines at the moment. .

Just to confirm my hunch; the number to call must contain only a singe "1".

Thank you again Fittop for your information and for keeping in touch and checking in with Roger.

Chaps,

Hi Jens,

Did you get my PM? My mobile cuts out. May have to use a landline.

Really good to know he is receiving attention from our HWH thread. smile

I used a landline and experienced no problems. I just knew, that old technology would come up handy one day!

Y'all,

Thank you Sir, for the correction. You are right.

To others that may want to say hello to Roger, I'm sure he's got many friends and readers.
For privacy's sake, I do have the number but will only disclose it in private messages rather than in a public forum.

Chaps,

We are beginning to get used to the Stalag isolationism around here. Brings back memories of The Wooden Horse, Colditz and The Great Escape etc. wink

Gents,

A few snaps from today's ride. 4 degrees Centigrade is still cold to me, although I did spot some people already sporting bare legs (not on bicycles though). The location is near Roskilde Fjord, the inlet where Vikings based their communities and set sail for conquests and a place in the history books. Roskilde City is not far away but you wouldn't suspect it from looking at the pictures. Roskilde Abbey, in the center of the town is where most previous Kings and Queen are buried.

Chaps,

Absolutely delighted to have finally reached Roger by landline tonight! He sounded rather subdued at first but gradually became more and more animated. We had a lengthy conversation which seemed rather surreal at first considering that we had shared the forum for over 19 years without speaking directly.

He is pain-free and seems quite comfortable thank heavens. I hope to follow the call up soon and in the meantime will correspond with his son about guitar related matters!

Y'all,

So glad to hear that he's heard from both you guys!
Be ready, grin, he just texted he hopes to be getting his laptop when lock-down is over.

Looking forward to him communicating with all of us.

I couldn't talk since wifey is napping in sofa. She needs her rest too. Grin.
