You had the right experience, it sounds like. Deaths don’t really affect people much, or it does but in a completely different way...mostly financially. That’s the problem with having this new technology, death usually just isn’t very real and impactful to them. The story is mostly Takeshi’s perspective and he’s definitely detatched and unaffected until one in the end. I suspect you mean a different character, that had to be rewritten but came out far better on the show than it was in the book, and I agree. That’s a testament to a well written show.

The other 2 books are very different, but should be good. The first was my favorite though.

Looking forward to this, even if I'm sad Joel Kinnaman isn't in it.

The first season had a lot of flashbacks so maybe season 2 might have some flashbacks of Kovacs as Ryker? Or has that possibility been ruled out already by the show-runners?

The flashbacks will be to his original self, maybe a subsequent sleeve back in his history, but I don't see any reason it would be the one Kinnaman played. Depends on how they've rewritten it. I think they're combining the 2nd and 3rd books so some flashbacks to much earlier would be in order.

I was hooked when I first saw it. Enjoyed it quite a lot.

I have been waiting for the next installment. Once it's all up I will do my annual Netflix for a month, well it always ends up being two, and binge watch everything I want and cancel for another year.

I just started last night, but really, the first book was friggin amazing. If they were to have followed the books, which they aren’t, it would still fall short. Taken on its own, still good. Surpassing season 1 wasn’t in the cards.

I loved season 1, I've seen it 3 times and will likely see it several more.
Season 2...I've managed 4 episodes I think and I'm hardly in a rush to finish it. The magic just isn't there, at least not yet. Of the books, as I've said (repeatedly it seems, looking back), the first is by far the best, so it was going to be uphill anyway, but they just didn't pull together very much this season. I like Macke, but the story and directing just can't compete.
So, don't hold your breath Jim. LOL

Finished season 2 and think it was better then one. Then again, distractions while watching one did not help.

Just finished the second season, final episode last night.
Did not know about and had never read the book.
I did enjoy the series, although I had to pay attention to keep it all straight.

Reading the credits wife did notice a name, Salli Richardson Whitfield, who played a main character in Eureka.
It was listed as a producer.
Sure enough she appeared in the last episode of Altered Carbon.

Eureka was an enjoyable, more lighthearted series.

Yup. Altered Carbon is most definitely NOT one of those shows you can just have playing in the background as you do chores around the house. biggrin

Dunno about that one Khai, just know I'd love to check into the Raven!
