I was surprised it didn't involve Florida, but not surprised it involved Russia. What really got me is the fact that the woman whose birthday was being celebrated is a pharmacist. I guess her pharmacy school never covered the effects of carbon monoxide on human respiratory systems.

This is almost as big of a Darwin Award winner as the dumbass flat earth rocket daredevil. I wonder if Blake Clark will revive his old "thin the herd" routine for all these idiots?

I didn't look inside. The butcher was at the meat counter helping several customers and he told me I had to wait for assistance from him or a manager to purchase dry ice There is a website address printed on the labeling which does not open for me. http://dryiceideas.com/ also notice the instructions for fog effects: 5-10 lbs of dry ice for 4-8 gallons of hot water. That ratio of dry ice to water is higher than the 25 kg (55 lbs) of dry ice that killed those Russians party goers. There is more than 4-8 gallons of water in the swimming pool. I would imagine 5-10 lbs in 4-8 gallons will cause enough gas to quickly kill everyone in the room. .

Carbon dioxide is unusual in that it has no liquid form. Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide. When it dropped into the water it turned to what is a chemically harmless gas. A small amount would dissolve and make a very weak solution of carbonic acid, which is harmless and could not have caused the "fake news" chemical burns. However, carbon dioxide is about 50% denser than air, so it does not rise easily. If a large enough volume had been generated then the deaths would have been due to suffocation and not poisoning. Just 4 grams of dry ice turns into 2 litres of gas. I recall a sad death many years ago when I lived in the UK. An overweight potholer slipped and got stuck in a crevice in the Peak District of Derbyshire. Foe days they tried to pull him out, but the carbon dioxide he was breathing out accumulated, gradually pushing the oxygen upwards until he too died of suffocation

It does but it cannot enter that state at atmospheric pressure. You can have liquid CO2 with the right conditions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_carbon_dioxideI have worked on refirgeration systems using C02......there is definitely liquid in parts of those systems in order to facilitate the refrigeration cycle.

Yes but you can survive carbon dioxide by going to a oxygenated area. You're dead no matter what if you breathe too much monoxide.
