I've always enjoyed the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series, so BG3 is definitely on my watch list. Also, With Diablo 4 in the pipeline there will be lots of distractions to eat into my productivity. Good times.

The isometric parts look just like Original Sin 2. Not that it's a bad thing, but it's striking how similar it looks to me.

In the past year I've played DOS2, Pillars 2 and Kingmaker in this genre, and all were excellent. I look forward to another great Baldur's Gate.

Well, some fanbois are complaining about BG3 not using the 3 or 3.5 D&D rules set, so that´s something to take into account when one reads or see`s any reviews. Iam not a fanboi and don´t mind BG3 using the 5.0 D&D rules set, but we all know how these diehard D&D fans can be!

Anyhows, I look forward to this new title, and agree it has to be difficult for Larian Studios to not show there roots, and mix there own style without breaking what BG is/was.

Me thinks they are the only ones who could pull this off to be honest.

Not only can they, they will, in my view. These guys are awesome. I didn't realize they were involved, and now it's clear why it looks so similar to DOS. I rate DOS as my favorite RPG ever. I am confident they won't mess this up. By the way, DOS 2 is 50% off on Steam. DOS 1 and 2 are such good games. DOS 1 has my favorite RPG combat system, and I've played a ton of these games. These games are my new standard, and all others now are compared to it. Pillars 2 was a worthy challenger. Kingmaker was less so, but maybe worth a revisit now that it's had more time to bake.

As to which ruleset they use I couldn't care less. It won't matter in the end. I don't even care if it's D&D. As long as the story is epic, the mechanics sound and varied and the character building/levelling is compelling and intricate that's all I need. It's clearly being built as turn-based (not that they had a choice) and that's good. RTwP systems don't light my fire.

This is really good news, thanks for the heads-up.

Thanks for the videos. Have you played either of the Original Sin games Red? They are just so good. Highly polished, great skills and talents, fantastic characters, epic stories. I mean, I am clearly biased, but over the past 30 years I must have played dozens and dozens of isometric RPGs and those are my favorite. Combine that talent for creating these sorts of games with the Baldur's Gate name and lore and I think this has the potential to be the best of them all. Time will tell.

I had a look and I played though DOS 1 & 2 a total of six times between them, and the enhanced editions. No other RPG comes close.

Until this I was looking forward to one game, Cyberpunk. Now that list has doubled smile

No, I do have DOS 2 and was really tempted to start a couple of days ago when I saw these videos. But, since Iam circa 20hrs in of Stellar Tactics, I don´t want to wander away as I know myself, then I might not want to get back to ST again. I alternate ST with Between The Stars a bit, but only to get some fresh air, Astrox Imperium is also In there but I try to stick with ST. Doing some mining and missions so I can get a new ship and also level up while at it. I have to take advantage of when Iam in the mood for certain type games.

That said, I wont be finishing any of the games I mentioned because they are very open, at least ST and AI are so there is a chance I might jump into DOS 2 in a not to long future smile2

I hear they say it might be relased sometime in the holidays, but they don´t say which holidays!

Makes sense and if you would end up liking DOS (1 or 2) there goes 120 hours easy.

DOS 2 is a better game I have to say. But they made a couple of changes to combat for DOS 2. The first game had great combat. DOS 2 does too, but they made changes to both the armor system and the way initiative works, both of which I felt were poor decisions. It doesn't ruin the game, far from it, but I found myself wishing they had just left it alone. Some liked the changes I imagine. It did, at least, limit the overpoweredness of high level characters, especially casters. But I liked the power, the sensation that your well-planned high level character had mastered his art. Instead it seemed like high levels were simply a gateway to gain more expensive skills or spells, not a case of the character gaining the mastery needed to make best use of his talents.

The armor system changes made it so that a mixed party was at a disadvantage. Normally you might go for some physical damage in your party, and some magical damage. In this way you'd be well covered no matter what type of enemy you faced. When they 'split' the armor in to BOTH magic and physical it meant that a party that that was all made to do one type of damage or the other was better. It sort of canalizes your party build. In the end I still loved the game and think it's the best isometric RPG ever. But it could have been better, to me, had these changes not been made to the combat.

In virtually every other way DOS 2 is a better game for me.
