I think this is a bummer. I realize a new director might bring in new and interesting things, but it just seems like Indiana Jones movies should be directed by Spielberg.

The diplomatic PR reason given is to bring in some new blood and fresh ideas but my educated guess is that Spielberg got fed up with the multiple delays to the project.

I also wonder if his "Crystal Skull" experience was a factor. I heard that he wasn't thrilled with the script and concept of that movie.

It’s still surreal to me that Ford will be 79 when Indy 5 comes out in theaters.

Raiders and Last Crusade are my favorites. The fourth movie seemed to loose itself and didn't feel right to me. It also seemed to try too hard to crack jokes which the first movies always seemed to have natural, easy humor. Half the time it felt more like a characterization of an Indiana Jones movie I didn't care for the story too much either. I did like that his new antagonist were the communists sort of like in the Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine game. It also had and awful and overused bloom filter or something. Disney is not what it used to be and I don't trust them whatsoever especially hearing about some of the children's programming to come from them lately.

I hope they give us a Raiders/Crusaders level story and make it a real doozy to send Indiana Jones/Harrison Ford off on a good note. Indiana even strikes me as the kind of guy that could either go out in the blaze of glory in a meaningful way or be the elderly retired archaeology/history professor adventurer that people visit for insight and stories. I'd like to see his character take on more of Sean Connery's attributes at the end. I loved that scene in Crusaders when just as they escaped the Nazis in a chase on the motorcycle and Indie has gone from adrenaline rush back down to his swarthy, devil may care attitude and cusses, and Connery slaps him hard and says don't use the Lord's name in vain.

I'd sure like to see a next generation Indiana Jones game too. Something of the quality of the Uncharted series. If they got the right developers to do it they could make a string of excellent games that could span all sorts of Indiana Jones stories and adventures. I'm ready for a playable Indie complete with physics based whip combat and physics based jacket and Fedora blowing in the dusty wind.

I didn't like Temple of Doom. Beating the children who were slaved... pulling the heart out... It was Doom that led to creation of the PG-13 rating, wasn't it?

Yeah that one creeped me out as a kid. Even seeing it later on I still feel its a step back from Raiders. Crusaders I think is the pinnacle for me.

Surely it’s possible to make a good Indiana Jones film which does NOT involve the over-used and cliche Nazis?

I liked Temple of Doom. It's one of my favorites.

Not having Spielberg is good for a variety of reasons, most of which must be kept in PWEC.

This will be the last one with Ford. Spielberg should finish it. Is that kid going to take over?

He and his co star Megan Fox, she ruined her career by biting Michael Bay's hands that fed her.

I'm with you, Coot. I have "Raiders" and "Last Crusade" on DVD. Fantastic films. I was an adult and already through nearly ten years in the Air Force, most of that in Combat Control and what is now JTAC, when "Temple of Doom" came out and I had the same reaction you did to it. And I'm not trying to pile on, Blast. Your opinion is just as valid for you as ours is for us. Everybody likes different things (for instance, I'm STILL of the opinion that "Pulp Fiction" was a comedy, start to finish).

About continuing the series, I'd prefer they leave it. "Crystal Skulls" wasn't bad, but it wasn't as much fun as "Raiders" and "Last Crusade". Not for me, anyway. Plus they didn't really leave any loose ends and gave Indy a good reason to relax and enjoy the rest of his life. They could, of course, go full Bond with it and keep cranking them out with a new Indy every five or six films, but then...just as with Bond...you end up with the generational "my Indy was better than yours" arguments. The Spiderman movies are already dealing with that and the first one came out only 18 years ago, for crying out loud. And personally, I think that detracts from the fun.

In the end it doesn't matter what ANYONE says because Hollywood WILL continue to make sequels of successful movies until the franchise doesn't break even.

Um what? I’ve read your post three times and I still don’t get what you are trying to say.

Raiders is still the best. Last Crusade worked because of James Bond. Otherwise it would had been boring.

The porn version was done a while ago

Raiders Of The Lost Ar se

It's A Parody Of: Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) Well, here's a gay porn that was obviously created working from the title backwards - a thrilling adventure flick featuring an Indiana Jones-like character who has opted for a bare chest and a couple of naked pals instead of the trademark fedora and leather jacket.

I'd probably rather suffer through that than another real Indy movie biggrin just let it die.
