Robert, I'll share a few more pictures on this thread when I have time to sort them out. They have done a marvellous job so far of the restoration.
Seb, anyone heading to the UK or northern Europe in February gets the weather he deserves. Mind you, after Canada it's a little like Mallorca. We took the ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland on Saturday night, the height of Storm Dennis. It was a little like rounding the Horn! On the Friday before I had a chance to visit the Saatchi Gallery to see the King Tut exhibit. We had a terrific time in Holland (and a little bit of Belgium). Started at Joe's Bridge and followed Hell's Highway up to Eindhoven with side trips to the landing zone and the site of some defensive battles east of the city. The next day we headed for Veghel and then the bridge at Grave. We went to Nijmegen (lunch at the Blauwe Hand, possibly the oldest pub in town – 1520), then to the evacuation points west of Driel and the site of the crossroads patrol and battle from "Band of Brothers" fame. Next day was Arnhem, starting at the drop zones at Renkum Heath and Ginsel, then to the Hartenstein. the Tafelberg, Lonsdale's church, the Ter Horst house, Urquhart's hideaway, Lion and Tiger routes, the site of the houses held by John Frost and 2 Para, and – of course – the bridge. The next day we returned to Nijmegen and Groesbeek and then began following the path of the Canadian 2nd army in the battles of the Reichwald and the Hochwald Gap – largest tank battle on the Western front and massively forgotten! Spent the night in Cleves (Kleve) with supper at the Fruh Brewery. From there we headed to Amsterdam to do the tourist thing and then back to the UK. Wonderful time!
