I really wanted to see this in the theater but in my area it came and went in about 2 weeks. I saw it several years later on dvd though.

The only way I would experience that where I live is if there was some kind of nuclear holocaust or zombie outbreak the day before.

I had to check which was longer and my winner is
Gettysburg at 254 min
Gone with The Wind at 221 (saw it in a theater in the 80s intermission and all)
Das Boot at 149

Although it didn't beat the 1st LOTR for play time I do remember seeing Tora! Tora! Tora! in the 70's at the cinema. That was only 2hrs 25 mins. Also I saw BoB at the cinema at 2hr 15 mins.

I have seen longer movies but they don't fit with the rules of the thread.

It would have been a better film had it had more war and less love story.

Only seen it because my parents took us. I have not seen it again since in its entirety.

Remember when you were kids and your parents say you are going to the movies and you get excited?

You get there and it's Gone with the Wind which a grade school age kid will definitely not be interested in.

I also remember my parents taking us to see Doctor Zhivago.

NoFlyBoy,my mum took me to see the Battle of Britain when I was just a nipper. Those were the sorts of films she was into, anything to do with war. She still watches BoB when it comes up on the TV,she must be word-perfect by now.

What I find so impressive about that film is that several of the actors from the cast are still very active in the business.

Christopher Plummer
Ian McShane
Michael Caine
James Cosmo
Edward Fox

So much awesomeness in one movie.

I'm guilty of quoting that superb film verbatim when 'flying' on the SAS server. Most often 'you could teach monkeys.....' "Boomps-a-daisy.
It's enough to make you weep" aimed at myself after another hamfisted landing.

Imagine my joy when a Polish bloke on Teamspeak came out with 'repeat please!"

I remember walking by the Production office in Old Compton Street in London's Soho on my way to collect galley proofs from the Typesetter, nose to the glass looking at displayed still shots.
Kept my enthusiasm to myself, not cool to like war in 1968 man! smile

I've said these lines so often while sim flying I'd almost forgot their origination, they're just part of my lexicon now!
