Shame! That's history. They should do everything they can to maintain it and keep it maintained.

How would something like that be transported if/when someone agrees to take it? Perhaps putting the plane on a massive flatbed trailer towed by an 18 wheeler?

Ice Cold in Alex or Eating in ...
The interior has been completely gutted out of it and there was a fair bit of damage done to it during it's last transport.

A friend that has an aircraft museum made enquiries about it but it would cost too much for them to get it to their museum, above is what he said about it today.

When they got their Vulcan bomber they flew it in, they did the same thing with their F4 Phantom, but that would need stripped down and transported on a few semi trailers.

How do they scrap it? Cut it up right there at the gate and then load the pieces into dump trucks?

That's one way, some are transported to military firing ranges and used as targets, some are used for fire training, in fact a lot are used like that. Our local airport at Wick got a Fairy Gannet to use as for fire training, I got to climb in it and look around it before they set it on fire and by the time they were finished with it there was maybe enough of it left to fill the trunk of a car, now they have a big steel structure that they have been using for about 15 years.

When I was on an week long camp at an RAF base with the ATC we got to tour the facilities, including the fire dump. One of the service firemen pulled a circular lump of metal from the ashes - Canberra cockpit window, he said. This was back in the 80's.

That Victor looks like a rocket ship. I've always loved the way it looks.

If they go with the transport option, they can transport it to whoever wants it. That's half of the solution solved.

My friend said it would cost too much to transport it to their museum, they only have a little one in the north of England, I try and visit at least once a year, my friend was a work colleague but I knew him from before I joined the company.

As a kid, I used to watch Victors, Valiants, and Vulcans, plus Lightnings flying on a regular basis.
They were a common sight in the 60's...

I like the Vulcan, but the Victor I love. Just on looks alone its the most awesome bit of kit.

I debated a flat earther once. He got so mad he stormed off saying he would walk to the edge of the earth and prove me wrong. He'll come around eventually.

I've often wondered how long gate guardians will last. Out there in the weather 24/7 for so long.

In the UK, many have been rescued, restored and replaced with fibreglass replicas. Particularly the smaller aircraft which were more feasible to move on our confined roads.

Do you remember the Gloster Javelin Gate Guardian at Perdiswell, Chucky? I recall seeing it there when I moved to the area in 1977. Wonder what happened to that.

I remember the very first time I saw a Vulcan on film and being very impressed by its design. It was in the Bond film "Thunderball".
