We had rabbits as pets when we were kids.

We got them when they were still bunnies.

Even after they've grown to adult, they didn't get this big.

Could that be a jackrabbit instead?

Aren't jackrabbits bigger than rabbits?

That's quite small in comparison to some of the ones my friend used to keep.

If that is a jackrabbit, shouldn't it be wearing jackboots? biggrin

I can't remember the make and model my friend kept, but this is probably around the same size.

That's about the size of bunnies our cat brings in … usually they are still alive too, they are almost as big as the cat. I think she would run if she came across a Flemish Giant in the wild tho biggrin

I hope so. Otherwise it might spoil.

The only kill in my glorious hunting career was one measly rabbit. My first time out. I took it home, my dad helped me skin it, and my mom cooked it in a meat pie. We were having dinner and my younger sister remarked how good it tasted and asked what kind of meat it was. Mom said, "Do you remember that rabbit Tom brought home?" My sister looked down at her plate...and excused herself from dinner.

More for the rest of us.

Your poor sister!

What does rabbit meat taste like? I had deer and lamb. They were too strong smelling for me.
I almost couldn't stomach it.

I was 16. I'm 65 now, and like most things in my life, I've forgotten. But I know it was good.

I've only eaten rabbit once, when I was in the air force on a field exercise one of the regiment guys had managed to kill a rabbit with a thrown brick. The field cook prepared & cooked it, but there was a crash-out before anyone could enjoy it. As I was left behind to guard whatever equipment wasn't included in the crash-out, I enjoyed that rabbit all myself. I remember it as being red meat, quite a strong taste (or maybe just an unusual taste I hadn't experienced before and therefore "strong"), but not much memory of how I would describe it. It was about 35 years ago.

texture wise like chicken and for flavour maybe sort of like a pork-ish flavoured chicken but mild enough that it takes on the sauce flavours quite readily, and it's no where near as strong in flavour as a hare and nothing like deer or lamb.

been a long while since I hunted rabbits, used to be I could run fast enough to catch them by hand but that was like 40+ years ago, used to ambush them in stubble fields after the wheat/oats/barley was harvested, the little b*ggers could fairly scratch you if you caught them wrong, had my forearm ripped open a few times smile

Alicatt will henceforth be known as the one that ran down the vicious Watership Down rabbits after the hrududil worked the field.
That’s awesome.

Being Scottish, why waste a 12g cartridge when you can just run them down? biggrin

Rabbits are not that fast, but they can change direction on a dime, that's usually when I caught them, they would turn 90° and run across my front and... pounce

Now Bugs Bunny that's a different p p proposition doc.

The wabbits we had when we were kids, store bought, they didn't run much in the house or in the little fenced yard we had. They were too spoiled. Knew they had food and shelter with us and don't need to go hunt for carrots.

After watching the two YouTube videos of the giant rabbits posted by BD-123 and Chucky, I am puzzled why no one has made a horror flick:

Attack of the Giant Killer Bunnies.

A real film. And quite terrible smile
