He made to 103.

One of the few Hollywood actors that I actually enjoyed watching.

RIP

He was truly one of the great actors. I liked him.

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

He's one of, if not THE, last of his era, isn't he? He was outspoken but not pushy. That's called "class". A lot of the current crop could learn from him.

RIP Kirk. I haven’t seen nearly all of this films but just seeing him in both “Paths of Glory” and “Spartacus” was enough for me to realize his incredible talent.

The Fury was the first film i remember seeing him in when i was a kid, that one tripped me out back then. I need to rewatch it one day.

Speaking of people from that era, Vera Lynn is still kicking. Regards the Golden or Classical era of Hollywood specifically, Olivia de Havilland is 105.

RIP Captain Yelland (only remembered he was Captain, had to look up the name). "The Final Countdown" (1980).

I knew it was only a matter of time but I truly dreaded the coming of this day.
RIP Issur Danielovitch. May you and Burt Lancaster resume your friendship with one another in the afterlife.

That he was. yep

I am deeply saddened by his passing but the thought that his work is still available for us to enjoy does bring some pleasant thoughts to the forefront of my mind.

I didn't know he was in the US Navy during WWII until I recently read a short bio on him.

I always appreciated Kirk Douglas as I do many from that special generation. I loved that twinkle in his eye and all the myriad of things conveyed with that big smile of his. I also admired his athleticism and athletic involvement with his pictures and his military service. I don't know the first movie I saw him in but it was probably something like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. He led a long and fruitful life.

I loved his work with Kubrick in Paths of Glory. I highly recommend the criterion collection disc for all of the extras and transfer quality (which goes without saying for criterion releases! haha). I still have not watched Spartacus so I need to put that film and a few others by Mr. Douglas on my viewing list.

Can this and the other Kirk Douglas's passing thread be put together? Thanks you!

I never knew he had 4 sons. I only know of Michael.

He served on these class of U.S. Navy submarine chaser ships, the 1139

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC-461-class_submarine_chaser

http://www.navsource.org/archives/12/011139.htm

but according to WIKI (which is not always correct), Douglas was on the 1137, not the 1137
