We used to keep rescued battery hens. Poor naked things looked more like scrotums on legs when they first arrived. Must admit I had a tear in my eye the first time they timidly ventured out of the coop and began scratching and dust bathing like normal birds.

However.

I had a badly scalded foot and was wearing thong sandals to prevent pressure on the blisters. Feeding the hens one day I felt a sharp prick on said foot and observed a hen having it away off up the garden with a lump of my blistered flesh in it's beak. #%&*$# bird obviously got the taste as it followed me everywhere consequently. Ungrateful #%&*$#.

These unfortunate birds are bred in such a way that their lifespan is about 2 years. When a weak and dying bird was unable to hide the others would tear it to pieces.
Just mini Deinonychus really...surprised it took science so long to realise that birds are evolved dinosaurs.

One of the hens was an escape artist and would scratch up my wife's vegetable plot. "I'm going to choke your chicken!" says she......threat or promise thinks I?

BD-123 would have been called a "master of letters" had he lived in the 18th century.

Thanks for the kind words, though "Master of old bollocks" would be my dear wife's opinion.
