Even on the Allies side where you see columns of troops marching for miles, carrying several lbs of gear and pack..
Not everyone is lucky to get a ride on a truck or on top of a tank.
Most of them walked from Normandy all the way to the Elbe.
Imagine walking miles and miles for days and the walk is interrupted by firefights.
Then if you are one of the lucky ones that survived the firefight without a scratch, you go back to walking.
When do you sleep? When do you rest? When do you eat?
The rations you get couldn't be enough to fill up your tummy and give you enough calories and protein and energy for the long walk.
In any war, the foot soldier is always the one that has it the hardest.

"Pervitin" was the amphetamine drug of choice for the Germans during WWII. It did it's job but also had some really nasty side effects.
