Opening up the Blitzkrieg mission in the MB, the T72 icon has a:

TACAN symbol.
a small square with a diagonal line, one half is black and the other red,

What do these symbols mean? I can find no way to remove them.

TACAN is a way of navigation. If you go to your navigation MDI and click on the TCN button any airfield or your carrier etc. that has a TACAN symbol will show up in your MDI. Click on any of those names and your waypoint will switch and give you a direct line to that object. To remove TACAN, go to the mission builder and on the right side you will see the symbols that add and remove objects. Scroll down to the TACAN symbol ( a hexagon with 3 small rectangles on 3 sides of the hexagon) and click on the TACAN symbol with an X through it, then click on the TACAN symbol on the mission map and that should remove it.

The half red half black square is your ground FAC, to remove it, click on the binocular symbol with the X through it and then click on the square and that will remove it. Remember to click on the save mission symbol to permanently remove these from the mission.

Many thanks for the detailed reply, although I must apologise as I didn't pharase my question correctly.

I've been playing with the Mission Builder, and what I'm seeing in most (all?) of the stock missions is that there is an object, e.g. a tank in the Blitzkrieg mission with those icons attached to it. I'm mystified as they can't be removed, and was wondering if they were of any significance when they appear in this manner. E.g. in the Blitzkrieg mission, I am able to add and delete an FAC or TACAN, but the ones already attached to the tank icon seem to do nothing.

My guess is that it's a probably a bug.

You're probably right, most of my fixing missions has been in Ripcords Persian Freedom, Saudi campaign and Cobalt Flash. I've done some limited work in the stock campaign and sometimes I can remove an object and sometimes not. Usually an object can't be removed because it's attached to other objects that make the mission work. I've never worked on the stock single missions. The mission builder, at least for me, is a very quirky thing.

From what you describe, though, it SOUNDS more llke the FAC symbol...so it is probably a bug

Attached is a screenshot showing various symbols:

GPS marker on SAM
JSTARS marker on T-72
TACAN on Airfield
FAC on Vehicle Park ground object

EDIT: OK I opened up the BLITZKRIEG mission and I see what you mean. a TACAN and a FAC symbol together... Odd....I seem to remember this happening before but I cannot quite recall the circumstance or meaning... I opened one of the STOCK missions, IRON HAND and it does indeed show up there too. Maybe if Elf is still around he can remember... I don't recall it ever happening on missions that I built.

That particular unit doesn't seem to have any GOALS or EVENTS attached to it either..

Hi,

After the beginning of JF-15 I don't think I did much with the Mission Builder except set up test missions. I'll ping some others and see if anyone remembers.

Sorry, no luck so far. CJ, Wags and Mike couldn't remember and they were the most likely suspects.

If anyone suddenly has a few memory synapses start firing with that information I'll let you know.

Well, it doesn't seem to HURT anything or change any behavior. Kind of a curiosity.. If I had to GUESS, I would say it might have been a feature of an earlier version of the Mission Builder or a DEV build that was used to build the stock missions, and was then tweaked for final release...
