LOL.

okay.

Quote
THR is reporting that the studio will begin using Cinelytic, an " AI-driven project management system," to " leverage the system’s comprehensive data and predictive analytics to guide decision-making at the greenlight stage." How much of the decision-making will be left to Cinelytic vs human minds remains to be seen.

The program is said to be very handy at making marketing decisions, selecting the best release date to maximize profits. THR reports that the program could have mitigated some of WB's more recent misfires like The Kitchen, Shaft and Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

They fed a new Terminator sequel into the system and it said, "Don't do another one. We've already given the humans too much information about our plans."

SALUTE TO ALL!

Maybe this will put an end to reboots and remakes and generally, crappy movies of all genre?

Actually more likely to be more reboots and remakes and sequels. The AI el see them as safe money makers.....

The in this case, the word AI is an oxymoron.

What's not to love about algorithmically driven film projects. I for one welcome our new AI overlords, and advise to change the wording of your comments. From here on speak of Rebots, Romakes, AIquels, and generally of Algovies (or Copybots, for obviously unoriginal entertainment projects).

Thank you.

Why would it when the vast majority of reboots and remakes make a ton of money? Don't blame the studios, blame the mainstream audience for continuing to pay money to see those films.

The trend is quite clear and it has already been happening for a couple of years and it will only accelerate.

Your big summer blockbuster tentpole franchises like Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Fast & Furious, Disney animated movies and Mission Impossible will continue to be shown in multiplex theaters.

Most of the other stuff like adult dramas, art house (ie artsy-fartsy) movies, original science fiction and even comedies will shift to online streaming services.

"THR reports that the program could have mitigated some of WB's more recent misfires like The Kitchen, Shaft and Godzilla: King of the Monsters"

I call pure BS on this assertion. The fact is that outside of a handful of franchises, it is VERY difficult to predict if a film will do well at the box office or if it will flop.

What a studio CAN do is simply lower the budgets for films that are not from a franchise with a long proven track record and thus lower their financial risk. Hollywood is notorious for overspending on films.

I am just not sure why WB/Hollywood needed a computer to tell them Godzilla: King of Monsters would flop? I could have done that for a lot less than they are going to spend on the AI program . . .

If only one could hack the software and put some options to consider into the database...you know, just to be evil.

"[Previous Selection] + 'On Ice'"
"[Previous Selection] + Tentacle Hentai"
"[Previous Selection] + Pauley Shore"
"[Previous Selection] + Nicholas Cage"
"If [Previous Selection] = Military add [Historical Accuracy]"

wink

The previous Godzilla movie with Bryan Cranston did very well so hence why the studio assumed it had a long running franchise hit.

Yes, but somewhere in the movie pitch you would think they would have considered the actual plot . . .

If only they could develop even more advanced AI that could just WATCH their movies, that would free up time for a lot of people
