The first CRPG I played was on an Apple II in middle school that was part of a e-magazine disk if I recall, and set in a sci-fi setting with hitpoints for every limb. To this day I have no idea what it was called but would love to give it a go again. After that I played Bard's Tale 1 on the PC, and the rest is history. I think by 1998 I had played something close to 50 different CRPGs which may seem like a lot but truth be told, didn't even scratch the surface.
There were way more.
And lucky for us, there is a guy who has made it his mission to play through every single CRPG in history, and has his own blog. He calls himself the CRPGaddict, and I've been reading his blog for almost a decade now:
http://crpgaddict.blogspot.com/Awesome stuff to be found here. I even got to speak with Corey Cole, one of the original designers of the Hero's Quest/Quest for Glory series in the Blog's comment section. Many other authors/designers can be found participating in discussions. If you love CRPGs, don't miss this.
