I was a very late-comer to the RPG genre. I never played any of the old school Dungeons & Dragons-like RPG's or even any of the isometric RPG's. My first RPG was "Knights of the Old Republic" in 2003.

Ice Cold in Alex or Eating in ...
Some of those titles take me back smile
AD&D, Gurps, etc. etc. but my favourite multiplayer RPG was Dark Conspiracy. Before that it was Tunnels & Trolls and Buffalo Castle single player adventures.

Then Zork and it's spin offs as text adventures on the PC/ Psion Organiser then came Eye of the Beholder and many hours of mapping out the dungeons there

The first CRPG I played was on an Apple II in middle school that was part of a e-magazine disk if I recall, and set in a sci-fi setting with hitpoints for every limb. To this day I have no idea what it was called but would love to give it a go again. After that I played Bard's Tale 1 on the PC, and the rest is history. I think by 1998 I had played something close to 50 different CRPGs which may seem like a lot but truth be told, didn't even scratch the surface.

There were way more.

And lucky for us, there is a guy who has made it his mission to play through every single CRPG in history, and has his own blog. He calls himself the CRPGaddict, and I've been reading his blog for almost a decade now:

http://crpgaddict.blogspot.com/

Awesome stuff to be found here. I even got to speak with Corey Cole, one of the original designers of the Hero's Quest/Quest for Glory series in the Blog's comment section. Many other authors/designers can be found participating in discussions. If you love CRPGs, don't miss this.

i always though rpg were stupid...still kinda do......but i magnum convinced me in a thread of his from dragon age origins because of the dog......when he said the dog is a companion i was like........okay.......maaaaaaaaayybe.......best game i played, because i could be a douche and still do heroics, instead of being ^paragon^or ^renegade^like most rpgs make you be.., my choices were my own, not a good karma or bad karma, and STFU allistair we are murdering the nun !

My first RPG was Questron for C64, circa 1985.

RPGs used to be my favorite genre as they had a lot more depth and longevity than you could otherwise expect at the time.
