I keep having a 'download' folder appear in my documents area and I'm not sure what is creating it.

All the programmes that I use that create a download folder are pointed to another drive.

Can I find the 'owner' of this folder? Not a big problem obviously but this is the first time I've seen this happen since using Win 10 and it's bugging me.

It may be something to do with the 1909 build because I'm sure I never saw it until recently.

FWIW, I have about a dozen "downloads" folders put in by various applications and more than one by Windows.

The one in Documents was put in on 10/30/2019. Like you, I assume Windows 10 did it. But, I don't really know.

Vienna, 2nd rock left.
You could use ProcMon to find out which program does a write/create operation on that folder. Might turn out to be a generic system process though.

I deleted it a few days ago and it hasn't come back yet so I'm not too bothered.

It's been part of the Windows 10 OS for over a year now and is located at C:\Users\[username]\Downloads and by default there is a shortcut within the 'Quick Access' panel....though it depends which build you have and how often you have updated obviously.

You can navigate to '\Quick access\Downloads' within File Explorer......right click it, and select 'Move' to point the shortcut to your existing Downloads location which is always handy to get it away from the 'C:\' drive. You'll have an option to merge existing downloads, start with a clean slate or restore the default location.

I'm pretty certain the latest builds of Firefox and Chrome point their downloads at this folder by default too.
