I thought some people might find this article about Silas Warner of interest. Most will probably know him best as the creator of the original "Castle Wolfenstein".

Both a very inspiring and sad life he lived.

Like the vast majority of other people, I had no clue what was Wolfenstein until I played the first shooter released by ID back in 1992.

This segment from the article caught my attention:

"But many who knew him say he was socially awkward, and would often react to praise of his games with bemusement."

It may be seen as awkward within an American context but I know there are some societies in Europe where self-aggrandizement and spotlight craving is heavily shunned.

Good read, Scott. Thanks.

Some of it I'd read in "Masters of Doom" ("How Two Guys Created An Empire And Transformed Pop Culture"). Fantastic book (Silas Warner has several index entries), gets me playing Id's game if just for how much you learn about the making of it, and Doom.

Like Western fast food culture, social media will eventually infiltrate those societies (probably already has).

Gives way and suddenly it’s day again
The sun is in the east
Even though the day is done
Two suns in the sunset, hmph
Could be the human race is run

I remember playing "Castle Wolfenstein" on my C64, so I knew the name when the shooter came out a decade later.
