I was at the supermarket and told the cashier Happy Holidays when she handed me my change.

A lady standing in the line rudely corrected me:

it's Happy Holiday, not Holidays!!

What the heck?

I always said Holidays, not Holiday, for as long as I can remember!!

The Hallmark cards all say Happy Holidays.

I would have said that I celebrate BOTH Christmas AND New Year's and asked her which one she didn't.

Why do people have to be such an ass about this?
The cashier says Happy Holidays and the patron angrily says No, Merry Christmas!
Uh, do you know that some businesses don't allow employees to say Merry Christmas?!?
Just roll with it. I wish people a Merry Christmas and smile and don't respond if it doesn't work for them

I feel this is the best way. If they don't like you saying Merry Christmas, that's their issue, not ours. But if they do, often you'll see their faces sigh in relief.

Shame the season has come to this, but I refuse to change for a minority. Christmas is about Christ our Lord.

I usually play it safe and not say anything (I'm not really compelled to anyway) but will return anyone's greeting with the same, whatever greeting that may be.

Can't stand rude people.

One of my sisters says Merry Douglas Fir tree day just to be sarcastic when she encounters folks who are offended by Merry Christmas.
