Try system restore, to an earlier date prior to Yahoo install. Never heard of this happening to the latest the Mozilla Firefox update. It could have also installed itself into your browser as an add-on

You could try running ADW Cleaner (from the Malwarebytes team) to make sure nothing nasty got added to your browser. Link - ADW Cleaner

I use Firefox too.

The latest version: 71.0.

It has never installed Yahoo or ask me to install Yahoo.

Weird.

Yeah, you’ e got some malware on there, that isn’t a Firefox issue. I’d follow Chucky’s advice. Don’t trust most “scanners” you find on the internet, but malwarebytes is ok.

I haven't used Malwarebytes Adware scan in a long time.

I went and got it and scanned my PC:

nothing found.

YAY!

Be sure to run in safe mode.
That ADW cleaner combines about 2-3 tools that were the usual recipe for this stuff since Malwarebytes bought up some companies.
Hitman Pro was another, but I think it may have gone paid but with a free trial.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. In fact, I have had the Premium (full paid version) of MalwareBytes for three years now! It runs automatically daily at 3:00AM.

I did not know they have a cleaner and will download it presently. I do have the free version of CLeaner which I run periodically. I also have Comodo Dragon and Avast anti-virus.

So, I think you can see that I am careful, but Ihave no idea how Yahoo got in. I will follow your suggestions and hopefully will see some results.

I am slow to use System Restore, but will if all else fails.

Watch this space...

I’m stunned that Yahoo is even still around.

Have you installed any programs or apps lately ?
If so it may have had an option to install Yahoo as a "bonus" at some point during the install that you didn't notice.

When I install program, I always look for custom option or a checkboxes instead of what most folks do and just click ok and ok and ok.

You don't know what you are ok to.

I wish I could help but I don't use Firefox and can't say why unless in PWEC. Probably your issue is due to the default homepage being set to yahoo?

I’m always baffled with Yahoo still going strong in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Most peeps around here say Yahoo simply vibrates much better with local topics than any other portals.

Cheers,

Well, the problem (still occurring ) is not unique to me, given the info from Mozilla.

Nothing has worked, nothing!

I used to know how to search the Registry to get rid of stuff, but cannot remember how, not having to do it for years now.

System restore consistently fails!

And no, I have not installed anything recently (months!) and am very aware of items "hitch-hiking" on updates or downloads.

Nothing to be done, and, surprisingly, Mozilla/Firefox is no help!

Have you try to uninstall Firefox, then do a search for all folder titled Yahoo and Mozilla and manually delete them and then reinstall Firefox from here:

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/

Also can you take screenshots of what you are seeing so we can see what's going on?
